I live in the home of Wonderbread. I took as your of the Ed bakery with my fourth grade class. What a wonderful smell! One could get high on the smell of baked bread. Of course this is the grandest sandwich of my childhood memory. Meatloaf, too, with mayonnaise. Thanks so much for sharing, it takes me back.
All my best,
Sal Xoxo

I enjoyed reading your poem. I could relate to the theme of the poem, mostly. I must admit though my peers have switched to wholegrain bread I still eat white bread. Very well expressed. Wishing you the best in your future endeavours.
With kind regards

Oh I love this and can relate. Wonder bread was a staple in our house when I was young. Peanut butter and jelly, baloney, meatloaf with ketchup, tuna salad, cinnamon toast when we were sick. Oh you brought back memories. Loved your look back at a happy childhood.

There are many choices when it comes to bread these days, sourdough, whole meal, whole grain and Gluten free, so you can still enjoyed your bread, you made me smile with this post, love Dolly x x x

Ha! Don't worry about what they say. Yes, grainy bread might be better for you but hey, as long as you don't overdo it there's nothing wrong with returning to your favourite plain white! It kept our ancestors going for many centuries...

Perhaps we should label this as an ode, a tribute to a true 'wonder.'

No improvements suggested....just don't know how to rate poetry. I am not a poet but I loved Wonder bread and read it aloud to my hubby...Aren't we old enough to eat what we want?

My dad was a poet. Long dead now, but he knew the ancient mariner by heart. He loved English poets and was apt to quote things randomly.

Oh you've made my mouth water for Wonder bread sandwiches! My favorite with mayonnaise, thick slices of garden tomato sprinkled with salt! Thanks for a trip down memory lane with your nostalgic poem. I really enjoyed it.

I so agree to this! Much truth here! Back in the day we ate what we liked. Now it seems like it's all bad for us. I love the throwback to the old days. Thanks for bringing back the memories!

Oh, I agree, Elaine. Take me back to simpler times. One of my favorite sandwiches to take to school was peanut butter and molasses! Another was homemade beans sandwich!
Back in those days, late 50's and early 60's, women stayed home to look after the household chores and kids. They made stews and pies and bread! And cookies... I loved molasses cookies! And homemade donuts!
Do you want to know what I paid for a loaf of the best bread in Saint John this morning? ... $5.49 bought at an Irving Convenience store/gas bar. This staple isn't cheap anymore. I think you can still buy Wonder Bread in the city, but it's a tad gummy now.
Meat Loaf... isn't that an old rock 'n roll band? ...jk
I loved meatloaf with raw onions and a whole egg or two mixed in. And smothered with ketchup. You can't beat these old favorites. I'd "escape
to a happier, simplier time" anyday! ... (simpler? is that a word, or should it be ... more simple?)
Nicely penned!
Hugs,
Kimbob

Your price for bread is the same as here on Cape Cod. I am suppose to be eating whole grain bread(the best for cholesterol lowering) and it cost around $5-6, quite pricy. You are making me hungry with all the food you describe. I was raised on meat loaf(loved the group). Thanks for reading and enjoying. Elaine
