This is a very tragic story, and I had not heard it before you have done very well with the poem describing the incident. Your writing is very good, and I wish you the very best with all of your writing. Patricia .

I still have chills running through my body as I sat and tried to chose the right words for this horrific assault and murder, but I doubt other than your emotional poem, I would ever find any. You have put your soul in these lines of poetry. Thank you for sharing.
Hugs, Carol

Another excellent poem from you, Debbie. I don't think you are capable of anything short of brilliance, as even with this true and tragic incident you are somehow able to wrestle the facts into rhyme and meter while still pulling us in with emotion and dismay.

How often do those in power seem to hide behind their badges, titles, or positions to wield the worst nightmares possible?

Another promising life snuffed out at the hands of one who fell through the cracks.

Horrible story, wonderful synopsis via poetry!

Thank you so much, Karenina, for this kind and thoughtful review! This was a shocking case on so many levels and it just pressed home for me how things could have been so different had those many opportunities not been missed by the police, an organisation that, frankly, wasn't fit for purpose. Your words, as ever, are always greatly valued. Take care Debbie

As a child, my cousin was assaulted by the head of his Boy's Club. The "pillar" of his community...until he got caught!

This gave me chills reading it! This was a very powerful poem that was well written. It's especially wrong when a person in a trusted position would do such a thing, because it can be much harder to convict someone like that. Six stars for you!

My, God, Debbie, this is horrifying. The words you use here: "don't trust him please, just run!" "immersed in fantasy - a random female victim to indulge his monstrous spree." These words remind us that there are monsters in this world, and they walk among us.

I worried about my daughter so much when she was in college, and right after she graduated and made frequent trips into New York City on the weekends to party and go to concerts. She always went in groups, and I thought she would be safe, then she almost killed herself behind the wheel of a car when she was drunk. She grew up a lot after that accident, thank God!

I mention that because of Sarah's mother's pain; I can't imagine that kind of pain.

There is a reason why many in our large cities here in the States would like to see the police force abandoned. More and more, a career that used to attract those who wanted to care for their community is now attracting those who want power, training in weaponry, access and cover.

This is an unbelievable travesty, and I thank you for bringing it to our attention.

Dear Pam, I would add immunity to your list of attractions to the police force. Thank you so much for this deeply appreciated review. As soon as I heard the mother's 'victim impact' words in a recent documentary, I felt emotionally bound to write about this case. It was tragic on so many levels, not least because it should never have happened if the force had been looking after the community instead of themselves. Personally, I'd want him dead because even the thought of him still living would haunt me. Thank you again, Debbie

This is such a tragic and shocking story of what happened to this poor woman at the hands of a predatory man wearing a Policeman's uniform! Someone who is meant to protect, turns out to be someone who causes harm. Your poem tells the story of great sadness and loss Debbie. Leaving so many people left grieving after this horrific murder. Your well chosen words form a skilful and talented write, well rhymed and metered, much enjoyed, love Dolly x x x

Thank you sos much, Dolly for this very kind and thoughtful review! We remember the case so well but the latest documentary on BBC I Player is a riveting watch, not least because it demonstrates the skill of the investigative work bringing this beast to justice. Love Debbie

Debbie, what a chilling poetic account of a monstrous act(s) with far reaching consequences...Your copious notes, bring out conspiracy implications of what we in America refer to satirically as "The Blue Wall."
It's too bad when these atrocious, sadistic, barbaric, savagery, heartless &
inhumanities are visited upon the unsuspecting public by THOSE who has
SWORN to protect them...It shameful, but this candid revisit and detailed exploration deserves a wider dissimulation. teafor2

Holy Cow!!!! This is absolutely horrible. Thank you for sharing this story in a beautiful poetic form. I can't say I enjoyed reading because of the subject matter, but it is a story that needed to be told.

Thank you so much, Barbara! I worried about sharing the details but, after hearing the mother's words in a documentary, I felt emotionally and duty bound to write the story. Take care Debbie

Here in America, several policeman have been recently been found complacent in the mistreatment of people considered by them to be less than. Crimes committed by those placed in a position that should be above question are to be punished so harshly that they dare not betray the trust they demand from the public. I am a Christian and I know that the Bible promises a resurrection of the innocent to life so, Sarah Everard will see life again into a world where people like her abuser will have no place.

Thank you so much, Nomi, for this kind and, as ever, very thoughtful review! It's a horrifying fact that people who are sworn to protect us, end up using their authority to serve and protect themselves in their deviant behaviour. Your fine words are deeply appreciated. Take care Debbie

Hi Debi,
This is a well written poem and echos the mothers words well. It is so sad that his happens and it takes so long to change things. Police should always be able to be trusted. It is horrible that the can't be.
Congrats on this being last months top ranked poem.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a wonderful week,
Joan
