Oh Sweetheart, this was wonderful. A proverb, indeed modernized!! And I love how it showed scenarios of many who were selfish, thoughtless, and stingy, but I love your ending where hope is shown and a good neighbor comes forth to help. What a wonderful proverb!! Great poem, Verna!! Love, Debi

Excellent, and all credit to the one who served the neighbours with the uncut lawn, and did so with compassion. Something the complainer could learn to do. Well said, and great rhyme with your story in a poem.

Thank God for good people. Some folks can be cruel and not willing to extend a helping hand.
Well done!

This really is the good neighbour, epitomised while another complains that it's nothing to do with him! Your tale with its pertinent message is vividly expressed in rhyming verse and a pleasure to read. Well done Verna! Take care Debbie

Debbie, your reviews are always so encouraging and well written, as are your poems. Thank you.

It's clear that the real "neighbor" was the one who was neighborly and acted like the Good Samaritan to help the neighbor who was in need just as the Lord would have us do! Thanks for telling it as a story poem in a modern context!

I smiled. You are the only reviewer who has mentioned the right parable this came from. You are a treasured friend. Thank you for the review.

I loved this poem! Mostly because I could relate to it so much. While I cared for my aging mother in her home I encountered such neighbors of hers who had nothing better to do than upset a 98 year old woman about the oil marks on her driveway. Neighbors aren't what they used to be, that's for sure. If more of us just slipped out of those meetings and took care of our neighbor's needs instead, the world would be a better place. Nicely written.

God bless this poem and the poet who wrote it! I guess there are two types of people in this world...those who complain, and those who take action, to solve the problem. We never know when we'll be the ones needing assistance. "Do Unto Others" is a solid way to live. Nice rhyme and meter! This marched right down the page...

This is a nice poem and it does point the different between neighbors. I remember our neighbor having his sons come over and cut out yard when my husband fell and broke his hip. We didn't know him before that and thought he was rude than he never bothered to get acquinted when we moved next door, but he turned out to be a good neighbor after all.We wanted to pay his sons but they refused to take our money.

Beth, thank you so much for a thoughtful review. It's true we don't always know our neighbors till they show a good side of themselves. I appreciate it.

I think of "do unto others, as you want others to do unto you." Great proverb in a poem! What a better world we would live in if everyone lived this way!

This poem is very well written, and it shows exactly what neighbors need to do when one of the neighbors is down on their luck and having problems keeping up with their property. Rather than go to the board meeting and complain, they need to pitch in and just finish the work for the couple that is struggling. I love your poem and I love the message that you bring here. Patric.
