Now that's a question no one likes to think about, let alone answer. Let's just hope he is coming home on leave, (unlikely) or with a broken limb, nothing more. This is another fabulous chapter, Gretchen. Well done. Warmest hugs, Sandra xxx

Thank you, Sandra. I'm glad you enjoyed this. Thank you for this awesome review and the extra star. Both mean a lot. Gretchen

Hello Gretchen,
as much as I love your writing, and it's always a joy to read, I wish you would wait until a six is in the works for you. You deserve it, and when I'm out and can't award one, it's bothersome to me. Another outstanding chapter gal. Now I'm going to have to pay more attention when I'm eating I guess. That was an interesting observation. I like Heddy's mom. It sounds like Lester's uncle is a bit of a dirt bag. Having a house in a state of disrepair is a reflection of the folks who live there I believe. Thanks for sharing this gal. Well done!
Blessings,
Tom

I post when I can which is hit or miss. Lol. Lester's aunt and uncle are poor white trash. And as for the six, I will take a good detailed review over an extra star anyway. Thank you for this. Gretchen

"Don't spend your time worrying about things that haven't happened yet." That's a line that pretty much describes how each and everyone of us should be. LOL. Thanks for sharing.

Poor Lester, his parents are awful. Thank God for HeWil's parents. I wonder what will happen with Willis.

The Story is unfolding nicely and the characters seem real.

Well done, Gretchen

Lester is with his Aunt and uncle. His dad is in the Pacific and his mom is home but working in a factory. And I'm honestly not sure how badly injured Willis is. I'll probably see him when Heddy does. Thank you for this. Gretchen

Men are more like animals and females are refined? Ha ha ha, this is a good excuse to behave like a pig at the table Gretchen. Those were the days when letters held the secrets we all could not wait to read. These days with instant communication, everyone knows everything so quickly, a fine post Gretchen, I enjoyed your fine story as it develops, love Dolly x x x

Thank you so much. I can remember the stories of my mom and dad about WW2. A lot of waiting. We have become an impatient generation. I appreciate this kind review. Gretchen

Heddy asks a really hard question at the end. I'm curious about how Willis return will affect them and what part will Artie play. I really like what you're doing with this.

Thank you, Barbara. I know that Heddy will probably handle Willis the best. Worried the mom will hover to much. Gretchen

"he hoses all the sand off us" brings back memories of a much simpler and laid back, almost laissez faire, slice of life most younger people today will never experience.

From "He hugged me tight and said..." to the end of that comment is dialogue and should be separated from the lengthy paragraph it is attached to.

"That just doesn't seem fair" in reference to what females of those times could do, and stay refined like they were supposed to have been, was not necessarily fair to their species but was expected of them nonetheless.

Unfortunately, many soldiers returning from war were/are not "right in the head" and it takes a complete lifestyle, plus much more, to reintegrate them back into reality.

Ending tends to indicate Willis is coming home but there may well be a serious problem when he arrives.

Thank you, Brett. I'm glad you could understand where I was going with this. Hopefully, Willis won't be too bad off. Gretchen

It is so good to see Nonni back; your timing is always perfect when she comes around. I wonder if she'll tell Lestor about Nonni or perhaps Willis when he arrives home. I'm looking forward to the next chapter.
Best, JohnC

I doubt she'll tell Lester but she may confide in Willis at some point. Thank you for this great review. Gretchen

A lot of men have been a different kind of casualty due to war, and it's nit getting any better, I can see a day when war will be so.bad, who knows what they will be like after that, beautifully written Roy

I thought I had already reviewed this one. Odd. I fell asleep. I can be writing, eating talking to someone. My brain puts me to sleep. I believe it knows I reach a certain amount of pain and just knocks me out. My ex-husband got a big kick out of walking into my room and seeing me sound asleep holding a half eaten easter egg. I love the colored ones that come individually wrapped with white goo in the middle. "Brach's" calls them hide and seek eggs. Hard to
find. I love your Heddy stories. Karen
