cool loved this poem.
I loved this stream-of-consciousness poem -which is about drinking and being lost in one's thoughts as one enjoys a drink. I like your work and have just finished reviewing two of your other poems per your request. BTW what is your favorite Scotch? I like single-malt whiskey and bourbon. My favorite bourbon is Knob Creek which is the favorite drink of my favorite literary character Stone Barrington, a James Bond-like character who was featured in over 60 novels by the late Stuart Woods. He was always drinking it.
BTW I ran this poem through Bing Co-PIlot. Co-PIlot does a great job of poetry analysis. I usually as it to analyze poems I am reviewing or my own poems using the following template
Please analyze the following poem indicating meter, if any, poetic techniques used, diction, sounds, theme, tone, word count, syllable count by line, (spell out each line indicating syllable, and word count per line, poetic schools, and influences.
it is particularly useful when I am struggling to get the meter right in traditional verse.. I often will revise it accordingly after Bing checks the meter for me.

This is like a Steely Dan song. I like it. It's got a nice cadence to it, an almost musical quality. Scotch whiskey has been known to produce great poetry. Keep drinking
Xoxo.

This is ironic, as I am fairly new to the site and this was one of the first poems I read.
I remember that I was sitting on the bus on my way to work and I read your poem twice and wondered how the poem would have sounded if it had been written after a double malt whiskey, or in contrast, after no whiskey at all.
Would the same stream of consciousness have burst forth? Would it have rhymed as well? Would the tone still have been maudlin? I recently read some of Leonard Cohen's poetry and this one resounded a little like some of his.
But that is a compliment of course :-)

Hello Mark,
I enjoyed reading your free verse poem - I've read it over and over and I've come to the conclusion that pretty much anything can be poetry, depending on how it's delivered and received.
Your train of thought took me on a journey of many questions and no answers! I'm sure I will be reliving the trip for a good while :)
Good luck in the contest and best wishes, Debra

Hi, Mark. I am not sure how to react to this poem. I feel I could be looking at a piece of abstract art about a vaguely sketched figure in a chair talking to an another figure just as sketchy. Are the Speaker's thoughts "poetry"? To be honest, what is poetry these days? Rod

I think there is poetry in everything in life Mark and we should not shy away from writing a few lines in poetic verse to pass our message on like you have here, an unusually post, love Dolly x

Hi Mark,
I found this fascinating to read. Unusual, quirky and original.
I suppose anything can be so-called poetry when given and perceived in a certain manner - though I strongly suspect a 'tongue in cheek' at work here :)

To me this is poetry it came from the soul and it has metre and rhyming. I wrote it as a spoken word piece and have performed it a few times now including once on a rather niche radio show. I have been unable to attach the audio since it is in MP4 and not the required MP3. Thank you for your time reading and reviewing it is very much appreciated.
-
Yes, I did feel it was authenic too, coming from the heart.
You could probably find a free MP4 converter online, then you can post the audio.

I love this, I think the souls of men know the true differences between poetry and prose, poetry is pondering, a mix of certainty and uncertainty, irony, device, confusion, and again certainty, Dillon Thomas was a drunk, there's confusion. Metaphor, alliteration and rhyme, all poetry beautifully written blessings Roy

Nice complementary picture art choice.
"I asked my wife did she love me?" Would read better as 'I asked my wife, "Do you love me?" or 'I asked my wife whether she loved me'--no question mark needed.
"I drink whisky and no one wants me," Hmm, really can't wonder why. LOL
Yes, I see it now; you're higher than the sky. What is the vice president's name? LOL

Thank you, but it was never about rewriting and editing it was just about writing. Sometimes I paw over ever word, but not in this case I wanted it raw.

Gotcha!
