Hi Debbie,
I am not acquainted with Joan Osborne. Is she related to Ozzie Osborne.
It would be interesting if she was.
This tells of her life well. Wanting to be a priest shows how dedicated she was at the beginning. I think the mix of Christianity and Buddhism is also interesting. I like the video.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Congrats on being the reviewer of the month.
Have a great rest of the week,
Joan

No relation but interesting it would be! Her name isn't that widely known but that song, One of Us, certainly elevated her celebrity and reached our shores here in the UK. Thank you so much, Joan, for your lovely, thoughtful review which I always appreciate from you. Also your congrats. Take care Debbie

Thank you for sharing about this artist whom I did not know. It's interesting that her song asked "What if God was one of us?" as this is Easter and Jesus was God Who became one of us in order to identify fully with us to fulfill the Law which none of us could do.
I'm glad that Jesse got you to research this one - a talented and courageous gal!

Comment from Gloria ....
I think you did a masterful job here, and I quite enjoyed some of the innovative working in of song titles and metre.
What if God was One of Us has been a favourite of mine for many years, and the cover done by quite a few musicians including the Hooters, whose version wasn't as good as Joan's.
Fine job here Debbie and a most enjoyable read today. :)

Again, beautiful depiction of reality in rhyme. I assumed they were titles of her songs but was unsure if it was from one album or not -thank you for the breakdown to answer that. I so enjoyed the read; I truly admire your artistry.

Thanks for sharing the image, poem, and notes, Debbie. I don't know much about Joan Osborne or her music so now I will have to check her out. You wrote an excellent poem with excellent descriptive detail and rhyme.
A good opening verse shows us what she had wanted to be, so she pursued "another star." Interesting that she referenced Whitman. I don't think I have heard of him being referenced in music before. The question related to her song of faith is intriguing.
I also appreciate artists who get involved with issues in society and try to do something about them. A very good closing verse. Thanks for sharing everything. A great job.

Thank you so much, Pam, for this very kind review which I greatly appreciate from you! To be honest, I didn't know anything about her at the start except that song which was released in 1995 (and, once it's in your head, it'll never leave!) She's been around for about 25 years, is a songwriter (although she didn't write One of Us) and has been very active politically. I'm delighted you want to learn more about her. She's definitely worth it. Thanks again. Take care Debbie

You are very welcome, Debbie. I would never have know you didn't know much about her.

Thank you so much, Paul! I didn't know her either other than that song which I love. But she's been around 25 years and toured and headlined around the world. As ever, I appreciate your kind support. Take care Debbie

You profile some terrific singers in this series. One of my favorites this time, l love how you incorperate the song titles in your poem, it sets it apart.

Hello Debbie,
when I saw the name, I vaguely recognized it, but when I saw the title, What if God was one of us, I realized who she was. I haven't heard that song in years. This was very informative, as all of the musical poems you've written. I like how you manage to weave the song titles into your poem so well. Great job gal.
Have a blessed day.

I was exactly like you. I knew the song but didn't recognise her name. And yet she's been around for 25 years or so. It's an amazing anthem though isn't it? Thank you so much for your kind vote. As ever, I appreciate your lovely thoughts. Take care Debbie
