Outstanding! Unbelievable how you can weave a story throughout a poem and still use her songs. And the story itself is a tribute to her life and dreams...rocky roads don't always lead to a gravel pit, sometimes we preserver and rise above.
Great!

Wow,
A wonderful poem. Joan was certainly a powerhouse, and her blending of Christianity and Buddhism was pretty inspired in my opinion. Love your notes which I believe are consistently the best of any person writing on this site. All in all, a complete effort. Thanks.
Take care and have a good day.

On first seeing her name I wondered if she was perhaps related to Donnie and Marie. I must confess I've never heard of her.
It's so creative how you tie in so many of her song titles into the poem. You talent and imagination truly is awesome.

No relation. I think they're Osmond. But I too hadn't heard of her, only that amazing anthem of hers. That said, she's been going a while and has written and sung some beautiful music.
Thank you so much, Bob, for taking the time and trouble to get to know her and to review the verse so kindly and generously! I'm very grateful, as ever, for the support you give me. Bless you, Debbie

Debbie, a tad bit "shorter" than your other posts in this genre...however,
just as engaging, theme and tone. Of course, peripherals similar, as is the
disclaimer for use of poetic license and concessions due to "meter." Use of allusions and religious blend shows her diverse interest range. Good to
read that no "litmus test" caused any devastation or lasting negatives in her life. The synergistic effect of the picture, video and acrostic-narrative
poem made for an excellent piece of reading. It was my pleasure to review
this offering. teafor2

It is a true testament to your writing that you could grab my interest for this artist whose name I would swear I'd never heard of!
Once I listened to "One of Us" I remembered the song and the emotional impact it had on me...odd that after that I never sought out the artist!
Great suggestion by Jesse, for you to tackle this one, as I don't think I'm alone in not knowing her as I have each of your other "bio-poems.
I plan on seeking out more of her music tonight!
I can't believe that song came out in 1995! Or that she is now 61 years old!
I'd like to suggest Eva Cassidy as an artist for you to highlight...
Beautiful voice ... Taken too soon at the age of 33!
Great poem, Debbie!

Thank you so much, Karenina, for, as ever, your kind and thoughtful review! I hadn't heard of her either although I knew that particular song which I adore. Now, that's a great suggestion with Eva Cassidy! I'll take a look. It's so helpful. Thanks you kindly:)) Take care Debbie

I'm embarrassed to say that I've never heard this song before nor have I heard of
Joan Osborne. I've listened to this song three times now ; once by itself, the second time as I reread your poem nd the third time with your author notes.
I'm thrilled to have had my eyes opened up to the story and this song and I intend to YouTube her and listen to a few more.
When you and other writers provide something new is what makes being a member of FanStory, worth it.
Thank you for making this happen.

Don't be embarrassed, John! I hadn't heard of her either although I knew the song which, once you hear it, you simply can't get it out of your head (well, I couldn't anyway!)
Bless you for this extra kind review and for being so open-minded to this artist. As ever, I'm deeply appreciative of yourself and your lovely words. Debbie

Another very well done biography in a poem, although I must confess I don't know this one. I wonder why she did not choose to become a nun instead .... These posts are always well researched, very well crafted and interesting, so I am learning a lot through your poetry. Thank you.

Thank you so much, Wendy, for this kind and thoughtful review which I greatly appreciate! I didn't know her either (although I'd heard the song which I love) but wanted to do it anyway because she came so highly recommended. Take care Debbie

This is wonderful commentary and great information on wonderful singer and entertainer! It seems she's had her fair share of ups and downs beautifully rendered in your submission. I see no issues with grammar aesthetic subject matter or sentence structure it's extremely well done and a fine entry. I wish you best of luck and I hope you have a great evening!

I love how much I learn by reading you, Debbie.
It's the first time I hear of this singer, but I've loved the song. Besides she's incredibly beautiful.
Even though I'm a Catholic, both my husband and I agree women should be allowed to be priests, and priests should be allowed to marry.
Anyway...
Thanks so much for sharing your talent and wisdom once again.
