What a moving and interesting poem that is once again exceptionally well-crafted, Debbie!
I would have reviewed your creative offering far sooner today, but we lost power to the Internet! Horrors!
But here I am, and I did not know that Joan Osborne had yearned to become a Catholic priest. Well, who knows what the future will bring? I grew up Catholic, and those priests surely could have used some female influence! :)
A thorough, perceptive, and well-researched offering!
Much enjoyed!
Thank you for sharing!

diane

Thanks for sharing this lovely tribute to this beautiful lady. It was great to read about each of the referenced songs. Yes... God is good! And I believe we are like God and He is like one of us.

You introduced me to someone I haven't heard before. I only heard the name. I listened to the song you share and I thought she is definitely from Kentucky but then I played some of her other songs on Alexia and I really liked them. I enjoy reading about the artists and writers you showcase with your poems.

Thank you so much, Beth! That really means a lot to me that you listened to some of her music. That One of Us is so catchy that I can't get it out of my head! Take care Debbie

I certainly remember the song, and in a sense He did become one of us, in the form of Jesus, but otherwise I had never really heard of her, but a a priest in the catholic wasn't possible, what an extraordinary story though. Beautifully written again weaving song titles through the narrative, beautifully even, articulate well rhymed post, well done, blessings Roy

Your poetic voice on this piece especially is sublime. Your masterful employment of rhyme, fact, opinion and suggestion blended so well that I am left practically speechless. Denial of initial goals, has resulted in many talented people chasing and achieving alternate pursuits to their desired success. Excellent work. Bravo!

Wow, Debbie, you did an exquisite job of telling us all about Joan and her career choices to be a priest is what she longed to be but her gender stood in the way so she became a singer/songwriter and wowed the audience with her stylish girlish ways.
Thanks for the note that thanked me for helping with this tribute, I enjoyed doing it, and reading this was a wonderful experience.

Jesse, I'm so pleased I didn't let her down for you! I was also hoping that it might bring a sparkle to your day. That song of hers is the best isn't it? And I listen to it over and over, never tiring. It's like a religious anthem for me that inspires more than any hymn I know. Thank you so much for your all your help and, of course, this great review! Take care Debbie

Yes, Debbie, I love that song too.
She asked pointed questions of all of us.
Have a great Sunday.
Jesse

I know that song. I loved it. But I did not notice her much. I guess it was too controversial for Texas. You did good research and write your stories well with true feeling. Karen

Thank you so much, Karen! Like you, I'd heard that song but knew nothing about her beyond that. But isn't it an amazing anthem that stirs, for me, more than any hymn I know and simply asks a very grown-up question about God. Can't see anything wrong with that:)) Take care Debbie

Thank you for sharing Joan Osborne with us. I'm not sure why but I don't think I'm familiar with her work. I don't remember any of her songs. I see that's my loss. I enjoyed reading.

Thank you so much, Barbara! I must admit I didn't know anything before I started except that song One of Us which, if you've got time. is well worth a listen. Take care Debbie

This is another wonderful tribute piece to a well-known artist. These are so entertaining and insightful and in this case it was educational as well. The music videos are such a nice tough. Very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.

Although I know this famous song, I am unfamiliar with this singer's career. A fine tribute to this talented performer Debbie, and I appreciated your notes to fill me in on her long and fruitful career, much enjoyed, as always, a well thought out, well-metered and rhymed poem, with this featured song, this singer somehow made God accessible to everyone, a fine tribute and a joy to read, love Dolly x x x

Me too Dolly. I'd heard the song which I love - a proper anthem! But didn't know anything about her. Jesse Doty suggested it and I was a bit worried that no one would really know her. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and review. As ever, I greatly appreciate your thoughts and kindness. Love Debbie x
