The contemplation of love, regret and hope. I grew up thinking love was solely emotional, only later to discover love is a choice. We choose to love and like with emotion. Here's to the uncomfortable choice to love. Thank you for your artistry.

I did enjoy this! It really does wrap some of the most important relationship lessons into a nice little package.
Respect, accept, and never neglect. This is well written, Barry.
Good work!

Love and relationships are all about the three "C", conversation, communication and compromise.
I enjoyed your poem and can tell it is special to you.
Well done.

-Nice artwork and presentation, Barry.
-Your notes are appreciated.
-I enjoyed reading one of your early poems.
-It is very good with effective imagery and rhyme.
-A good opening verse establishes the premise.
-A good second verse showing the nature
of this relationship and things you need to do
to keep it going smoothly.
-You make very good points in the closing verses.
-I am curious about the line
"I am the one who has a standard to set."
-Did she just have different standards from you,
or were they ones that didn't seem plausible to you?
Just curious. Thanks for sharing it.

Pam,
Thanks for the kind review and well presented review. I am so glad I did decide to post this one.
Yes, the other person did have some different standards to myself. I suppose you could say they were stricter. Eventually, despite some compromise by both of us, it became an issue that could not be completely resolved.
Such is life. Take care and have a wonderful day.

I enjoyed reading your poem. It is so true that each person in a relationship has to be separate before they can be healthy relationship. Well written. Great job

"My first poem I put to paper many years ago." Uhhh, so romantically nostalgic.
Nice rhyming.
"But let's not argue to our regret." Words of wisdom that I so agree with.
I hope that love still stands today. :-)

You succeed in conveying the idea of the individual as separate, but able to connect and that is what how love grows and is celebrated. There is such a feeling of new love and innocence in this poem.

This poem (your first or not) has a lot to say about relationships and it should be special to everyone who reads it. Telling the reader to love someone, but love yourself as well so that two can appreciate your differences as well as your likes.
