I was a bit surprised about the adoption and changing Tommy's name so soon after the marriage. Wouldn't a mother wait a bit? Would Tommy be calling him dad, so naturally in conversation so fast? I mean, I get it. I works and sounds great for FS readers.

Thanks, Lance. Valid questions you've asked. Tommy, I felt, was eager to call him Dad, since he has no memory of his birth dad, and seemed to click with him right from the start. Alan has acted like his dad for over a year now, and Tommy has probably longed to have a dad for a long time.

Sounds like a great night of celebration both as a family which really seems well bonded. Loved Alan's speech to Tommy. And another celebration is the success of the dyslexia glasses! Hope they can keep it under wraps from Warren!

This was a particularly good night for the family. If only those good days could last forever, but we all know they don't. The true strength of the family will be seen in how they weather the storms together.

the chapter is moving along smoothly and everyone seems to be in the honeymoon stage right now. I'm sure, much like real life, things will get somewhat rocky down the road. That was a good point that Tommy can't wear the glasses out in public until a patent is in place. I checked in to a patent on line, and immediately got contacted by a place wanting me to check them out. Sometimes I'm just kicking around ideas and I'm not ready for a full commitment. Oh well.

It's funny the way those internet ads work. When I had a legal question about patents that I Googled, a pop-up ad came up advertising legal advice. I actually did end up spending a small amount of money to get answers to my legal questions via an online chat session with an attorney. It proved to be very helpful and didn't cost me very much. He didn't mind that it was research for a novel, which I told him upfront.

If they were real people I would congratulate them, but the do exist in our minds at least, but it would be such a good thing to adopt, then the adoptee has all the legal rights and privileges of a natural child, my wife speaks fluent German, and French, well done, blessings Roy

Yeah, I think both Alan and Tommy would rather be father and son than stepfather and stepson because they are such kindred spirits.

This is a wonderful post. I always enjoy reading about happiness. I have feeling getting the patent may not be all that easy. I have a feeling Warren may come into this causing trouble. There's a reason he's in the story.

Thanks very much, Barbara. I like reading about happiness too. I'm always left feeling somewhat disappointed when there isn't a happy ending to a story. I don't mind struggles and setbacks, as long as we end on a happy note.

This is a nice story with a new and loving family now complete and test glasses working out so well. I've heard patents aren't easy to obtain and can be expensive. A lot of people have good ideas but aren't capable of making a prototype.

Absolutely correct, Beth. You can't really patent an idea; there has to be something tangible and convincing to go with it.
