This is my choice because it is well written and it is something that I have read about a few times. Many times compassion and kindness is lacking from children even when the parents were extremely kind and loving to them. Unfortunately, this is quite serious. The Bible speaks about this also. God forgives, even when we have done things in desperation.

This is such a tragic story. The scenario is definitely believable with all the chaos caused by Covid and the lockdowns.
A few suggestions for you:
thirty thousand back mortgage payments
(This either needs a monetary designation (dollars, pounds) or at least ....thirty thousand *in* payments.)
reducing my income buy half, (by)
At wits end (wit's)

Hmmmm. I would hope the majority of children chose to help out their parents in these situations.
I pay my mom's bills as she fell on tough times after two divorces from bad operators.
Then again, two of my kids refuse to speak with me, so what do I know.
