As I've often said, when it comes to poetry, I wouldn't know a sonnet from sorbet. Therefore, I don't read a lot of poetry. But noticing the need for one more vote to reach "best ever status" I figured why not. And I'm glad to have read it. Thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed reading this. Where I live we have a ton of these geese all the time. Kind of crazy really. I like how this flowed along smoothly. Seems accurate too.

I thought your beautifully captured the anticipation and beauty of the geese's migration. I like how you show the geese preparing for their journey and their restless sleep as they await departure. The personication works so well. The imagery is wonderful. I especially liked how you showed us their synchronized flight and the sound of their honking.

Someone studies nature well. The only time I get out there is when I mow my lawn. I love poems about nature because they are as clean and fresh as the wilderness itself.

Sorry I don't have a six. This is so deserving of the maximum reward. Every letter of every word delivers a picture of nature. Of birds migrating to a friendlier climate. Da Vinci couldn't have provided a clearer image. God, I wish I could write this well.

Crystie, I wish I had six stars to give you for this great free verse poem about the geese and their ache to aim higher. I love seeing the geese and their formation. Great descriptive words and very lovely imagery from the artwork you chose. Best wishes in the contest. Teri

Thank you so much for your awesome review. It actually already won a second place, but I surely and sincerely do appreciate your review so I can work on getting it up to the next recognition level.

I love to see flights of geese heading south in the late Fall. Your poem depicts them in a very personal manner as they seem to anticipate the journey just like humans would a plane trip. I really like the simile used to describe Winter. This poem also seems metaphorical as it describes (especially in the last two lines) any graduate on his way to a new life. Rod

Thank you so much for your thoughtful review. I think you must have hit on why I subconsciously chose this autumn poem for this contest even though we really are closer to the end of the school year and graduation time.

Hi Crystie,
This free verse gives clear images of the geese and there surroundings as they get ready to fly to warmer climes for the winter. Their formation is quickly recognizable as to what birds they are. Their song, though, isn't as melodious as other birds.
Keep writing and stay healthy
I hope you did well in the contest.
Have a great rest of the day.
