The dove's cooing call is heard on spring and summer evenings. They are such neat pretty birds. I like the double meaning of "blue" in this poem. Very clever.
I would suggest the following revision for reasons of grammar
mourning dove sings
his melancholy mating call -
blue meadow

We have numerous mourning doves in our backyard. I enjoy listening to them. My husband, not so much. He says they're sad. I think it's how one looks at it. Your presentation was, once again, perfect.

I used to sleep by listening to bird calls mixed in with soft music. There was one that featured the dove. I think I told someone I had never heard the sound before but went back and I was very familiar with it. I also love the sad song of the loon. Beautiful and calming. Gretchen

You live in Puerto Rico? How fun. I don't have mourning doves where I live but I have seen them in other places.

Mourning doves do have a very sad sound. But actually, it could be the listener or cultural. In English we say that birds "sing." In Korean, we say that birds "cry". I guess all Korean birds are "mourning."
