I loved this story. It was very interesting. I adore old homes and especially homes of the 1940s era that were still rustic and without any modern conveniences. My grandparents had a farmhouse like that and I was so happy there, making new discoveries everytime I visited. Thanks for sharing.

You were such a verbally advanced child at three! It's amazing you came up with those words to talk to your grandmother and mother like that. Even though I was born in the late 1950s, I also didn't have electricity in my grandparents' house. But can't remember oil lamps but do remember the outhouse!

Thank you Helen. Mom seemed to think I was verbally advanced but If I was it was because I was around nothing but adults all day. This was Mississippi and I don't think they were that verbally advanced either. LOL

Well, but your mom read you books all the time so she made sure you were advanced and you could memorize long classical poetry!

This will be eye-opening material for the future generation. I enjoyed the exploits of you as a child. I remember being jealous of my sister, but never a doll! Finally getting electricity is a big milestone. I remember when Dad had our primitive cottage by the lake wired so Mom didn't have to boil water on the stove to wash dishes.

"Mama," Who is this (change to "Mama, who is this)
Reading this reminded me of how jealous my daughter and her friends were of celebrities they saw in magazines and on TV; nothing has changed there.
Electricity must have been so exciting - all the possibilities for an easier life (especially for women).

I remember my parents talking about their childhoods and how things were so different for both of them. My mom lived in the city and always had electricity but my dad was pure old country and he went without most things including electricity. I enjoy reading your stories about the past...and the baby you definitely didn't want.

Out of sixes. I think Shirley married a prince in a anothe country and dropped out of making movies. I too love old house. My grandparents also had an old place with a tin roof. Good one, Beth.

Thank you for the review and comments. I know some presicdent made Shirley and Ambassador to some country. You may be mixing her with Grace Kelly who married Prince Rainier of some country. I love the sound of rain on a tin roof.
