I enjoyed reading your story. I've had a few people mistake me for someone else. I usually tell I'm not that person. The story is well written. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you Brenda. It has happened to me often. Most of the time, they actually recognize me and I have trouble remembering who they are.

Right, Beth, I liked the story. At first I thought it quite unbelievable, but now that you've explained it all I really liked it. I'm learning all the time, and that's not a bad thing. Good luck. Ulla:)))

Thank you Ulla, I actually had a lady believe I was her ex-sister-in-law. I thought that was pretty unbelievable too. She said I had a double. When I met I first met the guy I married, he was acting like he might know me so I thought he might be a guy who I met at a party and had had to fight him off of me. It wasn't him at all. LOL

The reader will lean forward for this trick: "Oh, shit, thought Paige. I don't know anyone in this city. I haven't a clue who she is. I'll have to fake it." I didn't know the technical name for it but I do know some people including my brother also since his head injury have difficulty recognizing or remembering faces.
I had a similarly amusing a bit awkward situation when I was just coming up a hill in my car and someone who was at their mailbox just coming across the road saw me. They thought recognized me. "oh my goodness how are you I haven't seen you in so long. Wow so how how is everything going for you? You still living around here?" She went on and on for quite a long time and I knew she didn't know me and I wondered how she was going to creep out of that. I guess she finally figured it out and was not embarrassed. There was no embarrassment which was wonderful. I could have been like some people, blunt and say who are you I don't know you but I didn't do that. My mother brought me up differently than that. I think she brought me up a how to fake it.

Thank you Liz. When I was living in my hometown, many people seem to know me that I couldn't place. Sometimes it was embarrassing. Thanks for sharing your story.

This is an amusing flash fiction with a happy ending. Usually mistaking someone for someone else means embarrassment for both of them, but these two pull off not having to eat alone. Best of luck in the contest.

Prosopagnosia - Now, that can get you in trouble. Or open doors!
Very nice writing. Good work.
Stress can do that to you, as well.
Also, there are doppelgangers out there!
Best wishes.

Thank you again. I've been in trouble many times with it but the day a woman mistook me for her sister-in-law had to be a case of doppelganger because I truely didn't know her.

Hi Beth,
This is a awkward situation. Sitting with someone you think you know but don't. It is nice of the woman to still want to sit and eat with a stranger. It could be a good new friendship brewing.
I didn't know about that there is a condition that makes it hard for people to recognize faces.
Good luck in the contest.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Have a great day.
Joan

Your condition can be disturbing, but your flash fiction story is funny. Two women meet that don't know each other at all. If I were in a strange town, I think I would have agreed to have lunch with a friendly stranger. Great story. Best wishes in the contest.

I like that you told this story in just dialogue (though some of it was internal). I like that the two women decided to have lunch together, anyway. Thank you for sharing, and best wishes to you.
