Some complex themes here in this beautiful, haunting poem, Jess. I take it that it's somewhat biographical about you and your sister, and it sounds like you hold on to some guilt to this day.
Sadly, it's probably a common story when the younger child's star doesn't shine quite as brightly as the older child's. It won't necessarily have the same result as it did in your situation, but there can be many powerful emotions at work, regardless.
Knowing your story, I worry a little bit about my two young grandsons who resemble the situation in some ways. - Jim

I appreciate this so much, Jim.
I understand what you mean, and I sometimes worry about my own girls. If I remember correctly, they are about the same age as your grandsons. But take comfort in knowing there were many other contributing factors.
Thank you for your wonderful thoughts, as always. OH! And happy belated Father?s Day!!!!!!

Absolutely marvellous, Jessica. I wish I had a six left for it. Emotionally intense, technically perfect, and full of artfully woven poetic devices. A tour de force.

Hello Jessica,
A splendid poem, one of your best.
When it comes from the heart it soars.
Beautiful imagery and wonderful circle
back to image of touching the sun.
Perhaps she did know, and smiles even now.
Best wishes.

Your poem touched my soul. I loved the presentation and the subject was alive. The combination of love and care then finally death, is real. The taking of the wind reminds me of the the song "You are the wind beneath my wings." Well done. K xx

Jessica, this is such a poignant piece, so touching and heartfelt,
beautifully rhymed with lovely imagery. I don't know who you are writing about but I'm assuming it's someone close to you. If that is the case I offer my deep condolences for you loss.
Thank you for sharing. Nancy

Lovely artwork and poem to go with it, Jess. Effective imagery and rhyme. A very good beginning as you tell us about someone who stay close beneath your wings. You ask a very good question mid-way through the poem about whether or not you walked too fast.
Things begin to shift as you watched "each step until your last." You do a great job with the images of light and shadow. The two closing couplets are beautifully written. The whole poem is a dedication to this special person that is written beautifully. Thanks for sharing it.

HI Jessica,
This is a love poem about a person whose love kept behind her to make her strong and hopeful. It is sad that he died and left her cold and hopeless. it seems. But the memories are still there.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Have a great rest of the week.

Losing someone we love and feel a part of is difficult in itself, but losing a sibling or a child is almost unbearable. Your words are perfect and brought me to tears, especially at the end when I thought of my son. Thank you for sharing.
