Hello Gretchen,
another fine chapter gal. I suppose that both boys are correct in their reasoning for not wanting Dewey to go to town. I don't understand why some people will see a person who is in need and will feel compassion, and other will see an opportunity to harass and hurt. Well done gal.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Thank you. I've never understood it either. Picking on someone smaller, poorer or just because they're different is just showing the world you're a jerk. I really appreciate your intuitive words and the extra star. Gretchen

Im emjoying learning more about Huck and Dewey as the story unfolds. Coyote Boys book promises to be as a good story as your other books. I can't help liking the boys.

I wonder what happened yo to Dewey... did his father hit him on his head?

Well done, Gretchen

His father was angry at Huck but Dewey tried to protect him. The dad went berserk and hit Dewey in the head with a shovel. You definitely root for everyone but the father. Thank you for this. So glad you like it. Gretchen

This is still good reading. Very realistic and believable. Keep up the good work. I look forward to where this is going. Sounds like a bit of a rough area. Thanks again.

My heart goes out to Dewey. People can be so cruel, and you did a great job portraying that. This is a good story and a very good write. Thank you for sharing it with us.

Kids can be so cruel, Gretchen, and usually to those who can't fight back. I'm sure Huck wishes he was old enough to leave and take Dewey and his mum with him. Or big enough to kick his dad out. Makes me so angry!! Another good, blood stirring chapter! :))Sandra xxx

Ugh. This is just tearing my hearstrings out and then lighting them on fire with rage. This relationship reminds me of George and Lenny from Of Mice and Men.

You're every bit as good at tragedy as you are at comedy, my dear. Great chapter. xo

A white boy and a "unmarried colored woman" together at the time of the setting of this story would tend to be looked down on by many.

"no where" should be nowhere.

"trouble makers" should be troublemakers.

Poor Dewey was being manhandled and having his head under water by his so called, fortunately Huck rescues him, he's being punished for some reason, perhaps it's because of Miss Lynn, that's only a guess, I like these boys as characters, and their mum, but their dad, mmmmh, well done Gretchen, blessings Roy

People are sometimes so mean spirited, it amazes me. They will pick on the weak. It brings them a false joy, I suppose. Thank you for this. Gretchen

This is sad. There are so many bullies in the world who never consider who they hurt. I know this story is headed for a bad scene. There is other way for it to go with the angry cruel and prejudiced father in the picture.

Thank you, Beth. You are exactly right. Nothing good comes from their father. Gretchen

I love the dialogue and with friends like these who needs enemies! It is a pity that Dewy can't see that these are not his friends, but it is hard to realise he only has his brother in life. A touching chapter about these two hapless brothers, love Dolly x x x
