Harry,

Congrats on winning the There oughta be a law! Contest. Your write hits the nail on the head. You've highlighted accurately every thing that has gone wrong in both the judicial and political institutions of this country. I agree with your opening statement. "this country is being led by an all-powerful, undemocratic, institution that is demolishing the First Amendment, which establishes the separation of church and state." The Republicans have embraced and encouraged the rise of Christian Nationalism in many of the Republican controlled states, thus violating the founding fathers' concept of the separation of church and state. Sadly, the corrupt political system and the politicians of both parties will never enact into law any of the 5 new laws you correctly annunciate in this write. Corporations and Billionaires are controlling both parties and will never give up the power grated them when the Republicans and Democrats gave rights to corporations that the founding Fathers' reserved for the people in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. The Supreme Court ought not have its membership appointed by either political party.

All the best,

Eugene

Thank you so much for your read and review and for bookmarking my efforts. I, of course, agree wholeheartedly with your assessment of the problems in our country. I am praying that a good man wins the November election.

I found this really interesting. Though I don't really think that those judges' religion is anyone's business, I do believe strongly in the separation of church and state. The dark ages of the Roman catholic church are enough for me.
...favor or their political party...
I think you mean 'of'
I found your laws to be really well thought out and beneficial. Hopefully someone in the political scene will have similar thoughts in the future

Wow, this is very well considered and excellently advocates for a change in the justice system in the US which is currently too closely linked to politics and therefore too liable to corruption and partiality. You lay out a compelling argument for immediate legislation. Well done and good luck! Debbie

Author,
Your great treatise about the sad state of the Supreme Court caught my vote.
I am a Christian, but believe in separation of church and state, period.
I watch with disdain as public school children in some parts of our South are required to take Bible study class. Reading the Word should be a joyful choice, never forced on children. The school leaders make reading the Bible drudgery.
On the other hand, I believe prayers of all kinds should be allowed in schools, if students choose to do so.
Your precepts for a better balance in our judiciary system are excellent. I really fear what's coming if a few misguided religious zealots get majority power in our government.
I'm all for spreading the Word, but if someone rejects His teachings, I'll move on.
I'm sorry to ramble on; it's just that you so eloquently expressed the way I and many Americans feel.
Good luck with this powerful entry.
Cindy

Thank you for your read and your feedback, and for the honor of six stars. I totally agree with your feelings regarding religion in public schools. I was a public school educator for 40 years and, to my knowledge, a child has never been prohibited from saying a private prayer in a public school classroom. Nor should Christian beliefs forced upon students whose families practice a different faith.

A well written commentary about an important subject.
An easy read that had this reader's interest to the very end. A good flow and pace.
You suggested that four judges be from each party but did not state what party the Chief Justice be from.
Good luck and thank you.

Good point I will edit. Thanks for the read and feedback. How about the chief justice shall be nominated by the president with the advice and consent of the senate. If one of the seating justices is selected as chief, then the House majority or minority leader of the party from which the Chief Justice is selected should appoint a person to the vacant position.

Thank you so much for sharing your law. Good luck in the contest. Since the founding of this nation there has been a controversy concerning the justices and their interpretation of the constitution. We haven't always had nine and there are those who believe that number should be changed. I haven't got it figured out but I do know our country is in a mess. My sneaking suspicion is that both sides have played a part. Then again, maybe I'm wrong. I've been wrong a lot! L O L

I agree with you! mystery writer...
My first thought, is that the very idea of a "lifetime" term, has always been wrong!...in my humble opinion.

I'm beginning to believe, though, that there are some Americans that have forgotten this country established the idea, of separation of church and state from our beginning...Its a fact, and something that is being ignored.

Politics should not be an "controlling" factor in how we Americans live, when it comes to Religion...Law and order yes!, but not Religion...

Your thoughts on term length and ethical standards for the court are serious and non political...The very idea that a justice, should be allowed to accept such gifts, is not acceptable.

It seems to me that there are people in the country, that either don't understand what it means to be a Democracy anymore...
or they are willing to allow the country to fail, as a Democracy...
I certainly appreciate your post... thanks for sharing your realistic thoughts,...but sadly I believe there are many that would disagree with you!
People have been brainwashed into believing the ideals, wants, and needs, of one group, over the idea of freedom to choose one's preferred religious beliefs..and that to me is wrong!
I am a Christian, by choice, I believe in God, and His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. but that's just Me, and I'll always feel the same.

Let everyone make their own decision...no one group, even a supreme court, should have that kind of personal authority over our lives...
Enjoy your day!

Warmly,
Victoria

Well Victoria, I must say our minds are very much in sync with each other. It is too bad as you say, there is a large minority in the country who have been brainwashed by an insidious man whose only concern is personal praise and power. Thanks for the thoughtful read, and the honor of six stars.

You're very welcome, it was my pleasure!..
I only wish there were more people that really understand how one man can actually
    "brainwash"
a group into accepting his lies...
I may not know who you are, but yes we are in sync...

A lie is a lie, no matter who tells it, even a man who has learned how to fool people into believing his every word...can lie, and that's whats happening today.

The need, and desire, for money and power, (and yes greed) has turned a man into a selfish person, willing to create fear, and discomfort among Americans, as a country....I cannot go along with any of that.

All the best for You and Yours!

    Victoria

Thank you for your thoughtful opinion in which I am sure you can tell I wholeheartedly agree.

Yes, we are in agreement, and I believe there are others that would agree with you also.
What you posted was perfectly understandable, especially if one is concerned about the future of the country, and the supreme court...This country may not be perfect, but surely it's better than so many others...Further, when any government official, whether, federal, or state, can have the right to demand that a copy of the Bible's "Ten Commandments" become a must, in public schools, then surely we can see a trend toward defining what Religious beliefs people Must! have...Instead, those in a position of authority, should demand that students, teachers, and all those involved in the education of our children follow the now established rules...
If some parents refuse to allow their children to feel as though they are being "indoctrinated" into the Christian Faith, I wouldn't be surprised...Power has become a must, for some officials, and they are going too far...and it can cause more problems than we need right now...I'm sticking to my way of thinking..I respect the rights of all people, and I believe the majority of Americans, and the people of all over the world, are decent human beings...

Have a pleasant Evening...It's raining here, but its not a heavy rain...

    Hugs,
