This is the beauty of America, you can move from state to state without a passport! I enjoyed the memories and the nostalgia in this poem Harry, love Dolly x x x

Well, thank you so much Dolly. And yes, that is the great Freedom of this country. We can drive through all the states without papers!

Hi Harry!
It's been awhile since I have visited. Being a born and raised and dedicated Kentuckian (who nows lives in Denver), I can relate to your feelings concerning your homeland. I am surprised you didn't manage to get the word "Hoosier" in there, but admittedly, it is a hard word to rhyme! Bird could probably do it, because he could do anything. He wrote his poetry on the basketball court.
---"This is the place/where I ate my morning banana/with a smile on my face/and a dream of my precious Indiana." --This is the best stanza, your last. There is something very authentic about the image of the narrator eating a "morning banana." It is this type of unexpected anecdotal detail that gives poetry its pop. Well done!
Until next time,
Patrick

Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I grew up in Illinois, right next door and some of the reasons, you like Indiana I could have said about my home state. I now live in Texas. I enjoyed reading and want to wish you luck with the contest.

What a delightful tribute to the state you grew to love so vividly. Not many people could find a rhyme for Indiana, I bet, but there you were doing so with panache and aplomb! Very nice poem, indeed. So glad I came across it this evening. xoxo

This poem, Indiana, reminds me of the song by R. Dean Taylor "Indiana Wants Me", because, well, they both have Indiana in them. That guy killed someone though, and he really didn't miss the state.
Nice poem. : )

True patriotism is built on the place where we have friends, family, a way of life that isn't strange or intolerable, and that provides us with a living and compassion, which could be almost anywhere, I've traveled a lot, this is a beautiful earth, beautifully written Harry, blessings Roy

Maybe someone is not born in a particular place, but they grew up and set their roots down there, so it's where the memories make it home. Great poem!

I'm a proud resident of Indiana, so I had to read this. I grew up on a farm, so I can relate to your reference to the corn. I call Indiana the sensible state, as there's not a lot of craziness going on here, as some states are experiencing. I lived in Massachusetts and Texas for a while, but was glad to return to my native state. I now live in Terre Haute and have no desire to live anywhere else. Excellent rhyme and flow. I'd suggest not leaving so much space between lines. judi

Well, thank you Judi. And you are so right. I grew up in Evansville and I now live in Florida and I am thinking about moving back because it is just so crazy here!

This is the land
where my heart wept
and the place
where my secrets are kept (These two lines would stand alone and stimulate one's senses.
This piece, my friend, encapsulated one's love of the state he treasures. Well done!
God bless,
Steve
