I like how you have put yourself in a past century. It's reminding me a little bit of my book "The Tor" where we were in the 16th century. I like your summary: ""Because this was a tough crowd. I knew if I could stir up their rage against silly superstition, once they got the fury out of their system, they would be better equipped to hear your common sense message!."

Wow! Very well-written story, Jim. My first instinct was to say Asa was very noble, but nobody would be that self-sacrificing. Then I realized he was doing that to open their minds to the words of someone more self-sacrificing, so his behavior was the perfect illustration. I'm happy that his action served its desired purpose.

You told the story beautifully, building up a bit of suspense over the pouch with the unknown contents, and even its being "a thorn in [Paul's] side." The revelation of its contents, and Asa's reason for carrying it, was dramatic and impactful. The story is very moving and effective.

THis is an interest fable I never read in the Bible. Asa wasn't really a jew having eaten a boar. If he was telling Paul the truth, he was willing to let them almost kill him in order for Paul to be able to present his message.

What an amazing story, Jim! A true hero who saw beyond his own safety to the common good and enabled the message of Christ to be heard. Very different to what we see today with ego and division. Thanks for sharing your memorable story. Take care Debbie

Sometimes desperate measures require desperate actions. Bold and brave is the man who puts his own safety on the line to prepare an unwilling heart for a lifesaving message that he really needs to hear and absorb.

Wow. Now THAT is "taking one for the team!" Few are that magnanimous anymore, are they?

Very engaging post that kept my interest and attention from start to finish. Interesting Author's Notes, as well. Even the artwork was perfect! xoxo

Well done. There were so many stories inside the stories of the Bible. I read the Left Behind series then wandered on to Noah and the giants, now going to read Moses. Fun to write. Esther

Sometimes, just getting people to take notice and listen can be a daunting task. But if there attention can be caught by whatever means, there is hope. Thanks for sharing.

Being filled with missionary zeal can be a dangerous business, especially when you overdo it like Paul seems to have done here. They always say that those who have been converted become the most zealous. That road to Antioch has a lot to answer for.

I enjoyed your biblical story about being duped by others and how be tend to believe until we find out the truth. This could apply to today's society Jim, much enjoyed, love Dolly x x x
