Ah, another of your amusing anecdotes about murdering men who madden your main characters.
So now husband Harry is history as she plies her propensity for producing pleasing meals to unprepared people.
Very enjoyable story, Karen!

Alliteration is a fine thing. I like it. It takes brain power which robs my pain signals of their full strength. Clever yes? If you can't fight something head on, go around the block. That's my thinking.
Thanks for the read.I apprecaite the nod. :-) Karen

Yes, exactly. Distraction does wonders for pain. Gets those endorphins going if the distraction is fun for you. Not so sure it would work if it isn't fun, though.

That is why I gave up on rewriting my story on Alistair Adams. It was no longer fun. It was just work. Yuck! big time.
I write what is hard that interests me. New ways to say old things. How to turn things upside down. How to turn a love poem into a burial site.
:-)

And you're very good at it too!

You are just sweeter than sweet. :-)

OH my Karen,
have you got any ex husbands missing? Do you hate men, or do you just enjoy killing them off in your stories? I assume that if Bernice is roasting the sheriff, she must be a butcher as well. Good luck in the contest gal.
Have a blessed evening.

Good 80-word story with all the elements it needs to be a story. You do have a habit of knocking off husbands. I am not sure her friends and neighbors will mistake her cooking for chicken or meatloaves.

This eighty-word story, Bernice Bakes, has the proper word count and finds the lastly-introduced husband Harry filling a key role in his wife's business.

A very humorous entry for the eighty words contest. Reminded me that making mini meatloaf was a specialty of mine my wife would request from time to time. Hope you do well!

I'm confused, Karen. Sheriff "takes his lunch here" - I assume you mean at Bernice's home. She's basting a huge chicken, then she's making mini meatloaves, then Harry is a roast, but not the one she's basting because you've said its chicken. Maybe it's me, but I feel like you have too many characters going in too many directions for such a short story.
Assuming I'm missing the point or overthinking - as I've been known to do.

With only 80 words we cannot give detailed explanations. The sheriff coming by gave her haste to get her "ovens" full of meat. Ovens indicated a business. The sheriff usually eats roast chicken, but she is going to push the roast today, she has plenty. She makes a lot of food as it is her business to do so. Hope this helped. Karen

Thanks, Karen, for taking the time to explain.

I am starting to see daylight on the boxes. Lots of rearranging to do, but once the boxes are emptied I am going to order me a pizza use the pain pill my sister gave me and go to sleep for a while. Bliss.

Oh, hell! Is he the roast, or is he being roasted, lol? I loved the twist at the end, Karen. I think she cooked the hell out of him, with potatoes and carrots. What a fun piece you have offered.
God bless

He is the roast. I use a slow cooker. on the slowest cook. You can take any tough piece of meat and after cooking slowly for 6 to 8 hours it will fall off the bone. Add an inch or so of water, The meat should have some fat. I package dry onion soup mix. I have a bottle which has all kinds of spices in it. Use whatever spices you like. a spoon or two of minced garlic.put some red potatoes in and baby carrots, I add red onions. Check every couple of hours, turn the meat add water when needed. When roast is done, take the juices, add some milk to make a cup. and add 2 cans mushroom soup. stir to you get the thickness you want, add milk for thinner, cook longer for thicker. Good eating Mister. I use pork or beef myself. :-)
-
I haven't even had breakfast yet, and now I'm craving roast. But I want to clarify: It's pork or beef for me as well. I don't have a crock pot big enough to cook hominids.
