Ahhhh, yes. That is the PERFECT ending in every single possible way. The coyote at the end, though? It brought goosebumps to my entire body...the ultimate sign for me of when something is exactly right.
Looks like another fine GW Hargis book to add to my collection! I hope you'll autograph it, too, as you have all the others, Miss Masterful and Gifted Writer Woman!! xoxox

No, it was the coyote that MADE the ending. He needed a sign from G-d and one was provided. It doesn't get more perfect than that, Miss Fabulous Writer. You knocked it out of the park.

This was a great story! I enjoyed following and kind of sad to see it end. But they all have to, I suppose. I love that his Momma appreciated what he'd done. That was validation enough, I think.

Gretchen, this was a riveting and extremely well-written story about one southern family's sad life due to the abusive behavior of the head of the family. The characters were so beautifully conceived and developed to show the full effect of the damage that one miscreant can inflict on, not only his family, but everyone around him.
Your plotting and pacing were superb, as you painstakingly made your way toward the climax in which "the coyote boys" who have finally been pushed far enough, decide to exact their revenge on their father, who finally crosses the line when he causes harm to the daughter of Huck's love interest.
Tired of putting up with their daddy's physical and mental abuse and the horrible way he treats their mother, and finally spurred to action when the truth about what daddy has done to the child is revealed, the boys are set on a mission with no return. Huck will be left with the emotional scars of the sin of taking a life, but like the coyotes they resemble, they kill for a reason and they just hope the Lord can understand the reason and forgive them. It's a burden they are willing to carry.
I loved the consistent use of patois and your use of the language of the time, as un-PC as some would consider it. It was very well done.
Gretchen, this was a magnificent story and a very exciting and satisfying read in which I relished being notified the next chapter was ready. I can't say the same about every novel I read here, but it was certainly true with this one. I wish you the best of luck in your efforts to publish it.
