You have accurately described the problem with our society and used only a few syllables. I am impressed. Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I enjoyed reading and good luck with the contest.

Thank you as always, Barbara. We have been systematically dumbing down our society for many years. Sad, isn't it?

We sure have. That's one of the reasons I retired from teaching when I did. I couldn't stand what we were doing to children.

Yes, I know. How on earth can I give you a six star review on three lines of poetry. Basically because I would like to see things win from people that are not on the usual list. Lately it seems all I see is poetry and I have a longer attention span. Prefer a big fatty book to a couple of witty lines. Somehow, your poem sums up my sentiment that everyone wants instant gratification, the quick stars, scrambling to the top of the pile. I much prefer to get inside the characters of a book. Esther

I agree. I think your message is spot on. You got the syllable counts right for the contest, as well. Thank you so much for sharing, and best wishes to you.

Thank you, Jessi. It's disappointing to see so many authors on this site producing good work - and it's too long for the average reader to appreciate it. Such is the world, now.

This haiku, The Now Syndrome, has the proper formatting and notes that we are out of practice learning new things. We are in the instant gratification age where the knowledge is centralized with someone else.

Could not agree more, Bill. Many authors on this site learn this the hard way. It's disappointing.
    Thanks for the review!
