I understand why Danielle is keeping this from her adoptive parents, But I think she should let them know what's going on. Now there's a meeting with Max. Not sure I trust him. But then again, I wouldn't trust anyone at this point, except Callum.
Great chapter, Jacob.
God bless,
Steve

Danielle's adoptive parents seem like normal, loving parents. And perhaps because their the adoptive parents, they are a bit more insecure about Danielle researching her biological parents' history.
Hope she would feel comfortable to be more open with them.
I think you did a great job with showing us her nervous emotional state and heightened awareness in just her making toast and the lump of too much butter.

So this zoom call is not set up and Danielle remains as nervous as ever about Emma and Michael finding out what she's up to.
God he's going to (be) buzzing at the...
Thanks for sharing another entertaining chapter, Jacob. Take care Debbie

Does Danielle really need to be so deceptive? Somehow it seems safer to let her adoptive parents know where she is going if she somehow gets trapped there. Maybe I'm being to adoptive parent here as we adopted seven kids. But I was always happiest if I knew where they were, even if I had no intention to give them a hard time about it.

The meeting with Max is set up. I do hope Danielle gets some clarity of what's really going on. I don't trust the people at that compound. Something is really off with them. I do like this story.

Now I am curious as to what Max knows or wants to know. I guess the next chapter will probably cover that.
Little fix:
I know me and Callum haven't agreed
I know Callum and I haven't agreed
(unless Danielle's educational background is lacking)
I guess Danielle was just old enough when adopted that she didn't ever want to call Emma Mum/Mom.

Thank you. I was recently told it's jarring to have Danielle call her adoptive parents mum and dad and her biological parents the same, so I decided to change it to Danielle calling her adoptive mum Emma. She was six when she went to live with them, so she still had memories of her real parents. I'm pleased that you enjoyed it.

I loved how you captured Danielle's anxiety as she prepares for the Zoom call with Max. The way you share her internal conflict and planning for her meeting adds a sense of urgency. The little hints of unease work so well. And I like small details like the toast and butter. It feels so real - I was getting tense! Fantastic job!

This is good that she is going to get to talk to the reporter to see if he has found out something she needs to. She is setting up her parents with the idea she may be going away for a while. You put a lot into a very short chapter.

I agree with Danielle...Max accepted quite quickly without any questions. Is he in on it too? And it's not easy to tell lies to the people you consider parents -- She almost tripped herself up. Very interesting chapter and I look forward to seeing what happens when Max and Danielle talk.
Smiles, Carol
