A fun and evidence gathering chapter for the book. I love how the ladies ate the brownies without any qualms. Girls and chocolate, there's no age limits. The earring proved to be a valuable clue. Maybe Mr. Howell was having an affair or maybe it was the murderer, fallen during the struggle.
One small improvement for your fine chapter.
Hattie noted that there was at least twenty feet distance from the davenport to the stripped bed There were two chairs....
--A period is needed after bed.

And just as the visit seemed to be reaping no rewards, the earring clue, brilliant! As ever I love the dialogue and lavatorial humour. A humorous chapter, with the oldies grabbing the sweets, and their comments about all that they observed, but it seems their quest for clues was not in vain. Why would an earring have been left, and how had it not been noticed before by those who cleared out his room? We'll see. Well written.
