This was a fun read. If that is what the future looks like, I am kind of upset that I will miss it. LOL As someone who worked a midnight shift for many years I can verify that the weirdest people do come out at night but in most cases they were also the nicest. thanks for sharing.

Mike that was a fun read. Night shifts is when things happen. Between 2 AM and 4 AM is when patients croak, surgery calls to wake the staff for traffic kill and everything breaks loose. Your imagination is too well developed. Esther

It's so true. People who do their living after dark are a different breed. Not necessarily bad but definitely different. I enjoyed this story. It may have been set in the future, but it was a story that showed good people will always exist. A feel good story. Gretchen

Very imaginative, yet down to earth (figuratively). There are a number of small editing things in there towards the end, (eg don't need to capitalize "mom" unless she is YOUR mom) but overall, this is a solid and unique piece.

I like this, acts of kindness and understanding can still done on the edge of the galaxy, I can still believe in the basic goodness of man, it'so just that man's collective .lack make us a target for self destruction, I was a great sci fi fan when young, Isaac Asimov, Frank Herbert, Kurt Vonnegut etc. it was a form of escape, but then I met Jesus... beautifully written Mike, blessings Roy

Well, that was some story! And I agree with you that if Hollywood would stop making these B-Movies all about sex and drugs...and write about the real life...that happens during the late nite hours, they would have a monster hit on their hands. This is one of the best I have read of yours! Perfect!

I agree it would be a monster hit! This story was fun to read from beginning to end. It's interesting to think how it would be to have the universe accessible to humans. And combining that with imagining the "death shift" was just delicious. I would like to see more stories about those encounters!

What I found interesting about this piece was that it illustrated how technology might seem like it is creating a whole new world, we really don't change much through it all. We still need adventure, we still need snack food and ben gay, we are all still, in some ways, desperados on the run. We are ruled by selfishness sometimes, compassion at other times; our old emotions still rule the day. I thought you put plenty of personality in the writing, and that livened it up. Lots of color and texture to the details in this piece. estory

The piece started really slow, but I understand the setting had to be set. I was just about to walk away from the piece when we got to the car pulling in. I like Chase. It doesn't matter how far into the future we seem to get we still have issues with the human race.
