Ciao!

Once a year I help my aging aunt to clean her windows, wash the curtains and other big chores.

Always thought I was lucky that my aunt doesn't want her copper or brass polished , she likes the mate/ dull look.

She has about 20 pieces. Two are genie shaped kettles.

But reading your poem made me think that I might have missed out big time.

Next visit I'm going to rub the sides well and see what happens. ( wink)

My three wishes would be :

World Peace,
Speak to my parents
Have another three wishes ( would that be allowed ? )

The six is because I enjoyed the unusual topic and the thought process it evoked.

Thanks for your inspiring review! I have no genie to wish for, but your three wishes are good for me, especially the middle one!

You have chosen six strong words and put them together to make a punch. Add the picture and it adds some dark humor to the poem. Good luck in the contest.

I loved I Dream of Jeannie growing up...I watched it every day after school in reruns. I was fairly horrified to learn later of the Jeannie/Genie/Jinn/Djinn--demon connection. Same thing with fairies. Tinkerbell is the sanitized version of a creature that Celtic folk would bribe not to hurt them. I wonder why we need to cutesify the mythology?
Your interesting poem reminds me of an ad in the classifieds: a very modern take on the lamps of legend.
Thank you for this very thought provoking entry!
Julie

THANKS Julie for your spin on my short poem contest entry. From my perspective, Jeannie was one sexy genie. I too watched the TV show. Barbara Eden is still alive at age 91+ (per 2024 interview) and is still attractive!

    Rachelle,

The picture implies that the Genie is a male. My few words gave no gender preference to the Genie.

I knew about Djinn or Jinn word but did not know the origin. My wife knew about the French/Latin connection!

    Thanks for your encouragement.

Wouldn't it be just great to find a brass lamp with a servile magic genie in its midst to be able to pop out its magical head and grant us three wishes with conditions, beautifully written, blessings Roy

    Roy,

Of course, the genie might indeed take on the female version akin to the Genie Jeannie on the old TV show (-:

I like it. I didn't see the mature content, because I'm a woman and not wondering what you want from this woman. If I were a genie believer, I would beckon a handsome man, too. We all want love, don't we? I thought you created a great poem from just six words.

Sometimes a picture will fool you. The FanArt search engine could not find a Genie. My verse did not imply that the believer is only a male. LOL
