Such a true human trait it is: fear. And the very fact that such is a known fact truly makes people's manipulation of other people using that 'fear' is such a horrid reality... And just as you have stated here: they multiple - exponentially sometimes -- once one or two or magnified enough... sigh. A wonderful offering, sir, of the state of things in some places, micro and macro. :-) Yvette

    Thank you, Yvette.
I appreciate your response to this poem. Fear is certainly a motivator. It can cause people to respond in ways they would not under normal circumstances. Thank you for your evaluation of the poem.
BTW, I have been a fan of yours for years but I just saw I am not being notified of your posts. I will catch up on your last couple of posts I have not seen.
This poem can be classified as sad or discouraging, but my post "Salvation" is exponentially different. It is a happy one.

Like this poem. Caption and background spot on. Thanks for the notes and I agree that fears can bind us into a life of captivity. Thanks for sharing and take care.

Great job with your sonnet! And yes, much of human life is full of "hopes and dreams" which will not "appease" but we have the Lord to give us the sense of fulfillment and free us from fears.

    Hello, Helen.
Thank you for your positive review and for your personal observations which I certainly agree with. Fear is a very strong emotion. It is quite difficult for some people to deal with. I think from time to time, we all struggle with it.

My personal experiences tell me that I am most afraid of things and situations when I am far from God, when sins weigh me down. In God, there is no fear but hope built with faith in God's love and saving kindness. Well done, dear Robert.

It is easy to say but fear is the most common emotion in human mind .Inner fear fear of external things all kinds of fear. we fear darkness, we even fear light...A very well expressed poem...

    Hello Sanku.
I agree with you that fear can be overwhelming and we often express fear overtly. In this poem, he is afraid of the lightning, but the characteristic of his fear is that he is always afraid of something, and he can find comfort in very little. It is designed as a spiritual poem and he does not express interest in that. Thank you very much for your interpretation of the poem and your comments.

I'm not sure I understand the ending, Robert. There's hope, then he coughs and it flees. I can't help but wonder if the cough is a symptom of fear or disease.

All hopes and dreams will not his life appease . . . these do not take away the fear he lives with constantly?

Perhaps I'm overthinking this, as I tend to do with poetry. I did like the poem - the rhyming and the imagery (his head is buried 'neath the pillow soft).

Thanks for sharing this; I did enjoy it despite my bit of confusion:-)

    Hello Pam.
I have always been a fan of Rudyard Kipling's poetry. As he did, I like to use a lot of hyperbola and metaphors. When I wrote this poem, I did it with people in mind who are never happy until they are miserable. I've known several like that. Thank you for reviewing and for your comments about the content. I allow the reader to decide what the cough represents.
There is hope for him but he has to reach out for it. I hope that helps you.

This is a very well composed sonnet with a fine metre and rhymes. I enjoyed the journey through the experience of fear that did have a moment of levity, at least for me.

Much enjoyed this on Robert. The artwork is perfect too. :)

    Hello Gloria.
Thank you so much for that glistening six star award. I appreciate your positive comments about the structure of the sonnet. A publisher who agreed to print my writing recently told me that no one wants to read rhyming poetry anymore. We're not working together anymore. I told them criticism is fine but I won't let them insult me. 😁

I'm getting The knack of using copilot for my AI artwork. I found that language with them has to be more creative than language with readers.

Hello Robert,
I wish I could say that I'm free from fear, but that's not so. I've been in a number of situations out on the boat, interactions with bears, things that go bump in the night, even an airplane accident, that brought fear into my heart, but God has always proven Himself faithful. Thanks for sharing my friend.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

    My friend Tom.
I certainly hope you are getting along well. I appreciate your comments about fear. I think we all go through those periods. You listed some things that would certainly cause fear to rise up in me. Of course you are right, God always prevails. Thank you for reading this poem and for commenting on it.
    Bless you.
    Robert.

Hi Robert,
This is an enjoyable and interesting poem about the fear of fear (I believe - correct me if I'm wrong). I applaud your well constructed rhythm and rhyme. A good one. Well done.

    Thank you, Shirley.
You are quite correct about the meaning of the poem. It is about the fears that we face, and in this particular case about a man who is overwhelmed by his fears. I appreciate your positive comments about the structure of the poem as well.
    Robert.
