Well, making and keeping friends can be a tough project, especially if your history of interaction in the past is troublesome. Looks like these to characters overcame this obstacle. By the way HAPPY NEW YEAR! Evi

I know what you are trying to say here, Raul, but it might make a little more believable story to put more emphasis on character and not go into what you said at the end. Maybe a different type of job would be better suitable for the way you explain it.
Jobs like this could not be held if they had to convince their boss that they are hard workers. Welding medals takes a skilled worker who has been trained for a period of time. So their work ethics better be established ahead of time and they best know what they are doing because you are right, it is challenging and dangerous. I am just trying to help, my friend. Love, Debi

They are more like tradesman who have done and studied trades rathe than engineers, who are trained aon a tertiary level at university who must solve more complex problems, well done, blessings Roy
Typo : just (like) that.

The overall message here is that we can make mistakes and learn from them. If we acknowledge that we handled things wrong we have a chance to atone and often (not always) people will look at our efforts and reward them!
I think you could omit your final line. Knowing they are engineers shows they have been succesful.
The mix of "Their focus is on coal, making metal, and welding metal."
is unnecessary...and takes the reader
away from the crux of the story.
(Or call them Geological Engineers and leave it at that, maybe?)

That was a strange ending and it seemed almost forced into the story. Also, I feel we've heard that conversation in other of your tales. There was one small matter: "I can't believe we made friends just that," Lacie says. Should be, maybe just like that?
