Aww, so sad! Even before I saw Bob's gloriously scenic descent culminating in a bloody splat! The committee obviously don't recognise genius and originality!! Well done and good luck! Debbie

Thanks so much Debbie! They did not in some previous contests, but hilariously Bob managed to somehow win this one. 🦍

So now we are upping our game and going animated ...good for you...I don't know how to do any of that sort of thing. It was cute though.

Thanks Carol! The images I used were actually already animated so that made my job quite easy : )

This was dark - and, yes, hilarious! The buildup was great! - Bob's panic and then that massive scrolling pause made the punchline land perfectly. The pacing was perfect. You gave us time to let the absurdity sink in before the final SPLAT. It's the kind of humor that catches you off guard! Great job!

Dear Mystery Author,

Wow. What a gripping piece! I can say, with almost 100% certainty, I've never read a 50-Word Story entry similar to this.

The beauty here is all you've left UNsaid. The ending was quite a jolt, and definitely unexpected, but I'm still kinda thinking Bob was probably on the ground floor and you've played to the cameras a bit. Adding the trained, low-flying birds was a stroke of genius... it offered a certain... realism.... you couldn't have achieved in a words-only situation.

Fun, fun, fun! Thanks and good luck!

Thanks so much Robyn for these kind and astute observations! Yeah looks like Bob might have been on a major Dubai skyscraper. This is a spin on an old Internet chain mail story from the 1990s, where one had to keep scrolling through TrueType font to see what would happen. You can see something closer to the original one recreated in Chapter 1, which had the luxury of 80 words instead of 50. If I find the time, I'll build on this series to test out different types of scrolling animations.
