I have to admit I wasn't their biggest fan, but after reading your wonderful synopsis, I wish I had been. Their song list is very impressive, and surprising; two in particular are "Indian Lake" and "Hair" (really?). One thing that stands out in your writing is how deeply you feel for your subject, and how well it is conveyed. Your writing is strong, clear, inviting, and very enjoyable. Although it's bitter-sweet, I'm glad you included their current status, and can't help but wonder what David Cassidy meant with "so much wasted time".
Thanks for sharing, Linda

Well, thank you so much Linda. I truly appreciate the kind words and great review! I think David meant he spent so much time drinking and did not spend a lot of time with his daughter.

I was afraid it was something like that. Fame at a young age can be treacherous.

Hi Harry. I read this with interest although I have never heard about the series. In the sixties and seventies I still lived in Denmark and we certainly didn't know about. But now I know. I will look up some of the songs. Ulla:)))

Hi Harry,

I was once a Partridge Family fan. I enjoyed reminiscing throughout your story. I especially liked your 'Where Are They Now?' segment.

Suggestions:

And (you could delete 'and') in their pilot episode,

The show often tried to show a contrast between the (you used the word 'show' twice in the same sentence. You could reword one of them.)

You brought back some wonderful memories of some delightful music. It was wonderful feel-good music during a time of terrible social unrest. Did you know David was Shirley's step-son? I also have a Cowsills album; the music was very similar to the show's music.

Harry,

Thank you for sharing this feel-good story about the TV show The Partridge Family and the interesting history of the band and musical family the show was based on. It was also one of my favorite family-oriented sitcoms of the period. While the latter part of your entry was a helpful telling of a simple Google search "Where are they now?" It was not pertinent to the story and the success of the show. It could have been left out.

All the best,

Eugene

Thank you for always bringing back the good ole times with your post. I loved the Partridge Family. And yes, David Cassidy was my favorite. My sister loved Bobby Sherman. We were 14 months apart in age. She died in her late 30s or early 40s and I am now 68. It is hard for me to believe, but I love living each day the Lord gives me. Thank you for sharing my friend. Blessings, Teri

The Partridge family made it to TV over here as well, it was on normally during the Saturday morning schedule.
I caught it sometimes but I must admit, most Saturdays I had other things to do than sit and watch TV.
David Cassidy was one of my early crush's pin-up.

Great artwork and story to go with it, Harry. This is my favorite of the ones you've done so far.
A good opening hook, and you brought back some memories I had forgotten, like the original group being the Cowsills. You do a good job describing the actual people and those in the t.v. show with the songs and also what their characters were like. You are right about the popularity of David Cassidy. I liked Susan Dey, as well, and also watched the show "L.A. Law."

It was a fun show and also featured great music for younger people because back then you could only see it played on t.v. shows. It was feel good music and a feel good show. They had an impressive number of songs and albums. It's nice to know they were successful.

I am sorry to hear that only two members of the show have survived. So many passed away at a young age, too. Thanks for sharing everything and writing such a good story. I have enjoyed reading them.

Interesting little essay on this favorite tv show of the seventies. Of course I watched every week. I think it's clear and concise and also presents some little known facts. I never heard of the Cowsills. Sad that they didn't get more credits for writing the music, but that's the way Hollywood operated at the time. Shirley Jones of course became famous in the film The Music Man not long before. My sisters had a poster of David Cassidy pinned up on their closet door. I had a crush on Susan Dey. A feel good show for sure, with plenty of shanninagans from Danny and the hapless Rubin Kincade. estory
