Hi Terry -

You missed the obvious in the rant. Let me start with, I see no SPAG and nothing that needs to change, unless you want to formally state your opinion, for or against even the concept of religion. Back to missing the obvious - most won't care to state THEIR opinion, for or against. They'll just type up 150 characters and collect the 10 points and 1.09 member dollars on offer.

As for me, I don't write drafts in FanStory, so have no fear of my content being leaked prior to posting. And, even when I post, I've never promoted anything for a high dollar value. I'd rather post for a small amount and hope for true reviews, rather than platitudes for high payment. It's just a thought.
Okay, rant away.

Kim

I've always felt ideology is personal, religion is public. My ideology belongs to me. My religion, should I profess to have one, is a public display. Ideology is something one feels. Religion is something one joins. Personally, I want no part of religion. I find nothing offensive in your rant, Terry. I'm looking forward to reading your reviews.

Peace, Lee

Thanks for the six stars, Lee. I, too, make no judgment except for myself. And I dang sure don't want the government doing it for me. Terry.

I raised my eyebrow at your title wondering what pot you were trying to stir. Then I outright laughed once I hit your second paragraph. Terry, what have you gotten yourself into with this piece?

Knee-high to the horned toad? Is that a West Texas saying? And those in the closet... well, that phrase could be taken way out of context.

The road was full of twists and turns, but the main essence of your rant makes its debut. I would have liked to hear more about what is happening in Texas.

That was fun. A bit meandering, but it made me smile.

LOL, Faith, thanks for the review. If I ranted about what was going in Texas it would take days! I was able to have a very condensed version of the rant printed in the Dallas Morning News a couple of days ago. I don't think our legislators will listen to me. They think God has told them what kind of religion we need in Texas.

I love this rant especially - we all have the right to religious freedom, including freedom from religion. What a great statement and so true. I am scared to say much more but I will admit that if I start to review and come across the word Jesus or God I do not continue reviewing. Please forgive me if this is a sin. Cheers. Jen.

LOL, Jen, thank you for the six stars! Don't worry, I don't evaluate sin in others, I got my own problems. Cheers! Terry.

This rant is so cleverly written. It certainly leaves you guessing the outcome. You are so right about our freedom to choose our religion or no religion at all. I'm ok with that. It's areas in this world where you are not given that choice. That becomes the problem!
Good job on this!

I read your post carefully,

You ask,
"are you okay with that"

Quite frankly I didn't
exactly understand the meaning of your post...or rant...
but,
If it was that people should keep their beliefs to themselves, and not try to push them on others...

Then I strongly go along with that.

However,
Though perfect I am not, nor ever shall I be...

I am a true believer, and I have been such a person most of my adult life...

Yet what you believe in, or if you have no beliefs, at all, means absolutely
nothing to me.

Just live your life, as you see fit, and I will do the same...

Thanks for sharing your rant with us...

Warmly
Victoria

That's an interesting rant. I think that government should not be a deciding factor of who and why we worship. And we are certainly bigger than a horned toad. Your rant takes us in the right direction, I think. And now I want popcorn! Evi

Ok, I really agree with your rant, and I suppose I am a very religious person. Believed in Jesus when a I was five and wanted him to cure me of my birth defects. He didn't show up, but this doctor came from Austria and fixed a bunch of us cripples the summer I was seven. I figured that was close enough to Jesus and never stopped believing. I am absolutely against display of prayers or commandments or requiring anyone to follow rules from others who don't believe as they do. Religion has no place in government. Thank you for saying what I have been thinking, especially about some Southern governments.

Carol, thank you for the six stars and the story about your experiences. According to the church records, my little brother was saved when he was nine. I held out until I was eleven. Terry.

AAAAaaHAHAHAHA!!! I loved it! I'm still grinning so hard I think my cheeks froze -- my chin too.
"If you read this rant closely, you noted I never told you my choice. Are you okay with that? Now I feel better." (*ribbit*)
If I may, I'll use YOUR words to express how I feel about your rant:
"I believe we all have the right to religious freedom, including freedom from religion. The choice should be up to an individual and not a suggestion or mandate from a government entity."
(Oh, and my rating should tell you too, aside from the fact that technically, this writing is flawless. *grin*)

Believing in Jesus is all about practicing what you preach Terry. Those people who attend church every Sunday and pray every night but ignore their neighbours need for peace or their need for help, are hypocrites in my book. Our deeds define us and sometimes I read words of love and friendship and belief in God in poems and the reality is quite a different story. This is not for everyone, just for some. I think we gain experience on who trust and who to be wary of in life Terry. Your post is poignant and honest, I enjoyed your questioning post, love Dolly x x x
