I thoroughly enjoyed this mad little piece, Karen. I enjoyed the way Gloria was taken out. Selling her twins as virgins is very sadistic. I also enjoyed the description of her wrap-around dress.

"Throw me down and have me" outfit. My black, "how does she keep it on," dress.

But my favorite came at the end.

Life goes on. Well, for us anyway. This is brilliant work, my friend.

God bless,
Steve

After a short break the killer instinct has come out again. You write very well Karen .Your prose is so easy flowing ,one can read it in one go. So Mildred has a double life one to showher mother and another to earn some money..very well done..

Karen, I like this character. She balances compassion well, caring for her Mom and dispatching evil with equal ease. She also seems to enjoy her job, which is always a positive.

She found her niche. She loves her Mom. And she is at peace with the world. What more could you want? Thanks for the read. I am wondering what to write about next. Karen

Goodness, Karen, your febrile imagination is working overtime here and our feet don't touch the ground before Sophia's on to her next inventive kill! Your art is in getting the reader on side to accept her need to dispatch her victims as cruelly as possible. Love the ending: "Life goes on. Well, for us anyway(!)" Well done and good luck! Debbie

Yes, that last line is my favorite one. It is so droll. While you are gone I can send you some of my stuff if you want so you don't have to go cold turkey. I am nice that way!LOL Thanks for the read, and being my friend. Karen

Being a hired killer is an every day job for your girl, and that's how you portray it, whereas it's horrible for every sane person. I like that contrast. I also enjoy the description of the sexy dress.
"She will take about a week for her to die" = words got jumbled here
"His father in law was quite tired of being embarrassed by him. " = f-i-l Does the father only want his s-i-l disposed of because of him being embarrassed or is it because of his daughter, as you mentioned in the paragraph before you wrote the line I quoted above?
Good luck!

I Thank you for the read. I edited, and rechecked the situation about the father in law's reactions. In his type of business appearance is everything. His son in law was causing people to notice his behavior. He had to go. Karen

well, Mildred certainly did! what a gal. and what a story!
I don't know if you'd be interested in trying this, but I think it's fun and very challenging: Online Sudoku. At night, when I've finished writing for the day, I play it to test my skill. I think you would probably enjoy it. Of course, you may already have tried it.
Your story made being a hired killer sound like a regular job. I'm glad you didn't go into detail of each murder. :)
Let me know if you get hooked on Sudoku.

Thanks for the read. I do not like Soduko or any number puzzle, they give me headaches. However, I love trivia and word games. I have letter sense, text twist, hangman, and two trivia games on my foke tv. Merriam Webster has a lot of word games, as goes dictionary.com, I use Trivia plaza for more trivia games. all free. I'm chuckling over the words that you thought needed definitions but I think most of us know those words.
Another great killer story. It makes me wonder what you watch that inspire your imagination. It's good that the narrator and her mom can have a normal life and Mom doesn't know a thing about the dark job her daughter has!
Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you for the read. Momma does not need to know what her daughter does.I have 69 years of reading 3 books a week, Tv, and movies, newspapers and magazines. My computer brain is crammed full of thoughty thoughts. We all take what we know and recycle, refurbish, and rewrite the stuff to breathe it back to life. Karen

This is a really interesting story. Mildred managed to dispatch her victims in just the right way to make it look accidental or natural. How come you write so much about dispatching people? Have you thought of all the ways because of one or more of your husbands? I had a year of plotting like that, but, somehow, we've ended up married for 58 years.

I was unhappy with my husbands. And with all the reading I have done, some at the PHD level, I know ways to off people easily enough. Also, all the mystery and crime I have read and watchmen on TV and movies my 69 years, they give me many ideas. Good thing I really don't do these things, people would be dropping like flies. Karen

I really liked how your story kept me hooked with the unexpected twist! The calm and almost playful attitude toward such a serious job made it feel intense! And, somewhat unsettling... I enjoyed how you described her outfit and how she handled the situation. The ending was a nice touch that made everything feel more eerie. Great job!

That last line was my favorite bit, it is so droll. Thanks for the read. In my head, it is not that she likes to kill, but she likes doing a good job, that lets her afford the best living situation for her mother. Karen

You're right. I really enjoyed your story. It kept me glued to the end with an unexpected career choice! It's not by chance autobiographical, is it? Keep up the great work!

Why do people keep asking if these stories are true?
I have been reading since age three. I was reading Micky Spillane when I was eight.I have enough books, tv series, ande movies packed into my brain pan to write pretty much anything. But whatever I write usually had humor in it somewhere. Thanks for the read and the sixes. Karen
