Great story for the flash contest. Sometimes the actual feel of hands on paper sparks the inspiration, at least for those who grew up writing by hand. Lol.
One sentence struck me a little odd:
"Whenever he'd tried on his laptop to write that novel sunk deep in his head, it wouldn't come. " But I know that the "laptop" is key to the story but it feels a little invasive to have the prepositional phrase right there. But maybe that's the effect you wanted.
Best wishes in the contest!

Thank you very much, lyenochka, for your review and comments. I will try to revise that awkward sentence. Rod
Comment from Rebecca Watson
As a writer with numerous novels in my head and a tendency to search for treasure rather than write for it, I absolutely loved your story! It is creative, well-written, and it spoke to me on a personal level. Thank you for sharing!

What a joy it was for me to receive this review and learn how you and Jordy are much alike. Many thanks, Rebecca, for those kind words of praise.
Comment from Dolly'sPoems
Perhaps the book contains a secret mission that he has to accomplish before returning home? Or maybe he decides to write a 100 word story to entertain us? Will we ever find out? Love Dolly x x x

Your story had me hooked right away! I loved how Jordy's frustration with writing felt so real. And then he stumbles onto this journal. This was such an enjoyable read. It felt like the universe (or something else!) was calling him to finally get his words out. What a moment to end on.

Interesting. Perhaps it was his Fairy godmother.
notes:
Jordy, an MFA student on Spring Break
-Suggest spelling out MFA.
(Whenever he'd tried} on his laptop to write that novel sunk deep in his head
-Whenever he turned on his laptop to write that novel sunk deep in his head

That must be a sign, sometimes we just get stuck, and our muse decides to find something else to do, or has Jordy been there before and left himself a note? very well written, best wishes for your contest****kahpot

This is an excellent story! Very clever. I did this challenge too and I know it's not easy to put together a full story as you have. You use good imagery and suspense. It's thought provoking too. My husband and I found a book in a bed and breakfast in NH. The couple who wrote in it had the same first names as us and it was exactly a year earlier that they wrote to the day. Your short story reminded me of that.
Best wishes,
Alex
