This is such an interesting way to handle emotion. Very clever honey bunch. Your brain is as big and chockful of stuff as mine. I sure wish I could sit longer and pound more stuff out. But, we have what we have. And, I am grateful I can write at all. This is a very good piece.

Thanks so much for understanding how each of us is faced with these emotions and we all must find a way to deal with them and move forward. Grief is one of the most difficult because it returns in waves when we least expect it. And I imagine that the others are right behind.

I love that saying by Mark Twain, and in fact it convicted me more than you can know, but the relief we feel when breaking that condition is complete relief, which I'm feeling already, this is beautifully written, blessings Roy

I always marvel at your deep understanding of human nature and emotions as you describe the feelings of the characters in your novels. Here, various emotions are personified with understanding voices, enabling them to be of help to those who have not figured out how to sort them. This is going to be a remarkable undertaking. I look forward to reading your emotional stories.

Carol,
This is a great story. I love how you are writing about the different emotions a person goes through. I think regret is a big one.
Well done my friend

"We regret the things we don't do more than the things we do," by Mark Twain. This was always one of my favorite quotes. I do believe this too. Great story, an emotional one too. Keep up the excellent work!

No Problem Carol. I know you mean well.
Comment from Wendy G
Very moving. To fully be free we need to accept ourselves and forgive ourselves and others if necessary, so that we don't carry those heavy burdens of regret and remorse. I am glad she found the letter with the forgiveness she needed to receive for herself.
Well written.

thanks for enjoying my efforts on writing about emotions in a different way. I wanted to make them feel alive because most times when they affectr us, they feel that way.

This adds to the story that began rather involved with the meaning of words that with a human factor. This letter has what has nagged at her thoughts for a long time, and it was not a letter of accusation but rather of forgiveness. Am I understanding this correctly.

Yes...she was afraid to know if it was an accusation or forgiveness so she stayed away from reading it. Finally she was brave enough to face her emotions, fears and the letter.

You've left all the backstory to our imaginations, which draws each reader into the story. I love the kind and positive attitude of Acceptance. It seems that Regret and Remorse have been hanging around for a while, quite needlessly. Good chapter! Blessings. Carol

And you put all of this in the attic, where anything can happened...including... death. "
Outside, the wind stirred the branches, and a bit of sunlight reached through the dusty glass - a gentle breeze carrying promises of better days.
She stood steadier now and glanced back at the chest. "Maybe next time," she whispered, her voice filled with determination, "I'll finish and truly put it all in the past."
Regret gave a quiet nod. Remorse shrugged. "It takes time."
Acceptance smiled. "But she can do it."
The attic door clicked gently shut behind her, and her footsteps were lighter.
Thank you for sharing and good luck

When we regret and have remorse about things that we did not do in the past, it is very difficult for us when we have to come to a point of acceptance. I have forgiven myself for the things that I did in my past and I no longer carry the regret or the remorse. You see my being able to accept what I did is the step to freedom. Patricia.
