What an experience! I loved how your story moved from the Christmas spirit, to frustrated and indignant, back to the Christmas spirit. The emotions felt real and relatable. This was excellently told.

This is a really great and well written story. Imagine getting caught for shop lifting when you didn't do it how terrible is that! You crafted a great ending to this story too! Do you know issues with grammar sentence structure punctuation or subject matter. Best holiday and the wonderful new year too and that your evening is great!

Oh, I wish I had a six to give to you and this wonderful, fluid, imaginative write. I have so enjoyed reading it and really liked your explanation of 'wilting bangs'. Such a great piece and a fun read. Thanks for sharing in your lovely, talented way, Diane. Hugs!

Oh my goodness,
What a great story... I had to stop every few lines or so because it brought back so many memories of the the women's clothing store I owned for over 26 years in Santa Monica, California....I remember the thefts I had, the robberies and the burglaries...so terrible that those memories still seem to haunt me.
I love how your story ended with such laughter...
Goodness, and I wonder what year this was because you say that you wrote checks... those days are of course long gone.
Loved everything about your story!!

    Hello, Lisa!
    So pleased you enjoyed!
This retail shopping debacle took place in 2007! Yikes!
But many folks still use checks to make purchases here in Michigan!

Merriest of Christmases to you and yours!
    Thank you!

    Hello, Jesse!
Never a dull moment with me when I'm out and about shopping; that's for certain!
I still own the boucle sweater, but, sadly, the store I visited is no longer in business.
And to know that I made you "laugh out loud" just made my heart sing!

    Merry Christmas and Beyond!

I had to laugh about your keeping your favorite store, and its employees, in business. My husband says the same thing about my favorite coffee shop, that I frequent every day. When they see me walk in the door, they begin making my latte as they know already what I will order:-)

You're a knitter?! There seems so few of us anymore. I just finished my husband's annual Christmas sweater:-)

"Don't take it personal." I would take their rude behavior very personal!

Diane, what a wonderful story you have shared with us. I love that, despite the frustrations of this shopping moment, you were all able to laugh and wish each other a merry Christmas. 'Tis the season, indeed.

A great read - I really enjoyed it. (But I wonder if you'll go back to that store?)

I'd go back to the store "in a heartbeat," but it went out of business about five years ago. I miss it greatly.
I had to smile about your coffee shoppe and how a latte is always at the ready when you walk through the door. Whenever my husband and I frequent our favorite neighborhood restaurant, the moment we enter the establishment, the bartender begins making me an amaretto sour! Then when we are seated, before we even order, he'll approach our table and say, "Sorry you had to wait so long!"
Now, an amaretto sour is the only alcoholic mixed drink I enjoy, and we've been going to this restaurant for years, but you should have seen the look on our daughter's British in-laws' faces the first time they went to dinner with us there, and "John" presented me with my drink before we all had barely settled in our seats! Too funny!

    Thank you again!

This is funny but I bet true: "I am on a first-name basis with most of the salesclerks, because as my husband has pointed out on several occasions, I have contributed greatly to not only the store's financial success over the years, but said employees' job security as well." Great well due sarcasm": was asked to present not one, not two, but three pieces of identification. This soon became more than a little annoying as my checks contain every piece of information anyone would want to know about me, with the exception of my body measurements and my true hair color!" An interesting ending...I'll say best wishes also.
