I liked this very perceptive story about your husband's memory and how he seems to only remember the painful things. Memory is such a strange and personal thing. It doesn't sound like a lot of fun in the car.

Those vacation trip could be stressful, especially for him. I wrote this in a sense to tease him about not remembering the good things. I was meant to make you smile.

Oh, I love your writing - and you! All of us have selective amnesia - especially when we choose to. I did not know your husband had left us for a better place (in my view)...I am sorry. This story is just wonderful and says so much.

Thank you Sherry. I'm so glad you liked this. My died in 2017 but I wrote this long before he died. I like to tease him about not remember anything but the bad things from his childhod.

A very nice story written about the Ying and Yang of life and how sometimes two people can help complete the other. I am not sure how your selected memories worked, but it seems to let you all get down the road, and your description is humorous for us readers. Good job.

Virtual Six.
During the reading, I was trying to fathom my emotions, were they of something tragic, or enlightening, something treasured or laboured... with a touch of irony.
Now that have finished reading, I am still not sure, except for one thing. Excellent writing. Such flair, I marvelled at the sarcasm, but perhaps sarcasm of something missed.
I wish I could have given more stars, but I have none.
You write very well.
Have a lovely week.
My best wishes.

Selective Amnesia, LOL. Thanks great! Sorry it's taken me so long to review your post. But, they liked me so much at the hospital the first trip that, they made me come back for a longer visit. Glad to be out and reading your posts. :-)

Hahaha, Beth, I love it. Yeah, you might be right that we all have selective memories one way or the other. But it does seems a bit odd, your husband remembered so little from his childhood. I loved to read this well written piece. Ulla:)))

A wonderfully penned piece about an important phase of your life. You come out as a very positive person. I like the gentle humour and some unusual behaviour of your husband. I think women are much more sensitive and naturally blessed with better retaining power, especially when it comes to family events. I enjoyed this lovely write. Thanks for sharing!

I like your brand of selective amnesia much better! You have a much more positive and thankful outlook on life. Poor Evan had suffered a lot in his sensitive childhood and then suffered war experiences. I guess some focus on the negative memories.
creative, but paranoid, imagination, (no commas needed)
I might have to get away a few day. (days)

I hope you know I meant no disreapect to my husband who had some great characteristic. I liked to tease him about his scant memory of his childhood. He really dreaded vacation trip with the kids were young. We had some good trips after they grew up.

Thrilled you revived this charmer. Rich in witty and wry humor--you vividly describe the quirks of your husband--they are reminiscent of those of my friend you-know-who. Hint: not Scott. Delightful piece. I always look forward to your family sagas!

So Chuck is a bit like my husband with selective amnesia. I've been told that comes with the male DNA. They also have selective hearing and don't multitask like women do. Thanks for the review.
