And I thought I was bad as a new wife! Your story as you began married life was funny and entertaining. Evan truly was a trooper for the dinners and lunches you served.
As to the tupperware, very funny event that you can laugh about it now. I had a recipe that called for a French tube pan. I bought an open loaf tube pan and with the thought, my cake mix would end when it reached the end of the pan. It did not and the mix kept on going dripping into the oven.
Thank you for the laugh.
Regards,
Mary
Thank you for the smile.

Thank you, Mary. I'm glad you enjoyed this. I doubt if many were as dumb as I was when it came to kitchen skills. I run over more than one pan of cake dough and caused my oven to smoke up.

I laughed out loud on reading these tales - shame they can't be included in some living together manual for the younger generations these days, who sometimes seem to think they can live on just 'love' alone !!!

I'm glad you got a laugh out of this. I think it is pretty fun now myself. I made so many stupid mistakes back in the days when I was fresh out of a small town with no idea how do anything a wife would need to do to keep a house or cook.

It sounds like you had a lot to learn in those early days and I hope I prepared my girls a bit better by introducing them to the kitchen early in life. That landlord you speak of here should be arrested! An interesting post Beth, love Dolly x

Thank you, Dolly. My mom made me help out around the house, but most of what I did was ourside. I even had to learn to milk cows which didn't help me as a new bride living in the city. The only thing I knew how to cook was cakes, but when I started back to college, I didn't have time to bake cakes, and we didn't have the ingredients I needed anyway. LOL

Oh dear. I found some of the contents disturbing, as it contrasted so profoundly with mine. However, I was compelled to read on. Now, having finished the piece, I am left hanging as to what happened next. Why did Evan die and what from? Did you stay married into old age? Questions, questions. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you Sandra. I was eighteen and totally unprepared for marriage, but it was a marriage that lasted 61 years and they were good years. He died of cancer in 2017 at 88. I am presently writing a biography of our life, and that of our four children which is now on chapter 141. The story you read was part of an early book written in a lighter more humorous style over ten years ago. I learned to cook and other things, but I had to grow up after I got married. Thanks for reviewing this. I'm anxious to here more about your life.

I enjoyed reading your journey into domestic life, I am not the greatest either when it comes to housework or cooking. Your writing reads like a mini movie as you describe being newly married and I like how you heated up canned food. This is a story that many women can relate to.

Thank you for reviewing this, and I appeciate your comments. I think this is probably true that I wasn't the only newlywed unpreparied for the responsibilities of keeping house. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I wanted to place a six here, but, you know. This was a funny and entertaining look at your first timer's experiences in marital bliss. Oh the many laws that landlords break when we aren't savvy. Your cooking experiences rival ours, as burned meals, raw meats, and smoke detector sounds were common. Fun read, Beth.

Thank you Bill, I really appreciate your comments. Some of the women reviewers think I was some kind of retard. I like your honesty. I wasn't the only unskilled cook out there. The men tell it like it really was.

Wow. You have gone a long way from that. You have three or four children and become a working woman. You are a fast learner. It's always fun to go back to the early days and see what we survived back then.

Well done.

Thank you for reviewing this. I got other things on my mind and I've not been inn the mood to write anything new so I'm putting some things out I wrote earlier.

Hilarious! Your trademark dry humor is in full force. Your wry self-deprecation is delightful--a tour de force of domestic disasters. The pervert landlord tops all.

Thanks Elizabeth. I don't seem to have a problem being self-deprecating. I doesn't bother me that people think I was a idiot. That was a lifetime ago.

I also employ self-deprecation--by poking fun of myself I hope to preempt others doing so!

Loved the humor you put in this even though the thought of melted Tupperware in an oven was totally scary! I see that you had trouble with lecherous men even before you went to work. So glad that God kept you safe and saved Evan from having to enter into a duel with that creep.

Thank you Helen. I know people think I was an idiot back then, but I was pretty naive. it is hilarious to me now how dumb I was.

You were not alone in your naivete. My father-in-law had to teach my mother-in-law how to fry an egg. She never cooked either. I had a mom who worked outside the home and was the main breadwinner so I had to do the cooking.

Ahh, you were married very young. You remind me of my elder daughter, who wasn't a consummate housewife, but planned to be a professional musician, and was/is talented enough to be that, but she was swept off her feet by a clever but equally naive boy, who was studying a double degree in mining engineer/geology degree, but despite their naivety, they are now consummate parents and work professionals, both equally well qualified as citizens and a talent in their work and church. I was so nervous about their lives together, but God had all situations in hand. As I'm sure you did. I read this to my wife, she was similar to you and my elder daughter, fortunately we were in our thirties before parenthood. Lovely story Beth, blessings Roy

Starting out naive doesn't mean you have to stay that way. It is fun to learn along with your mate. If one seems to know everything already the other would be at a disadvantage. I don't think that would work as well. That one would always feel a bit superior.
