When we look back in life, some of the hardest times were the best. It really doesn't take much in life to make us happy if we have our health and love. Thanks for sharing another fine chapter.

Thank you Ric, those were happy days in spite of the silly problems that kept cropping. It gave us memories to laugh about later. I appreciate the review.

This is a fun tale despite the roaches and lack of funds. I like the spirit of adventure that you and your new husband had, ready to face what ever came along. Excellent writing here that reads like a movie and holds the reader's interest.

Thank you so much for the review and comments. It was an adventure for both of us. We had to learn together and in spite of the problems, I wouldn't have traded it for anything.

Oh my! What a beginning! You were so brave to start out life like that and still found ways to laugh about it. Can't believe that lady "cleaned up" and didn't notice all the roaches! This is great evidence that you were a team that could handle life together well!

Thank you for the review and comments. I'll bet she knew there was roaches there but didn't mention them. I'm pretty sure we did her a favor and got rid of them. Of course we didn't see them until night when we bought out our food.

Wow, this is really a horror story! I've had to encounter roaches, too (and other pests), although thankfully, not in the same numbers you did in that house -- at least, not where I lived. As a social worker earlier in my life, I did see some horrific conditions.

It's interesting to me that Evan was still alive, when you wrote this. I'm sure you miss him, every day. You spent so many years together, in a wonderful marriage.

Thank you so much for the reveiew and your wonderful help with the editing. We didn't see the roaches until night and we got out of food. We saw even more after we sprayed, but they were dying and had no control over where they landed. I never want to go through that again.

You're always welcome, my friend. Yes, no one wants to live in a roach motel. I've had some bad experiences with them, but that one sounds particularly harrowing! Yikes! You're made of some strong stuff. You proved it when you were a small child -- I read what you wrote, about overcoming your fears. That's one you wouldn't want to revisit, for sure!
Blessings and love, Mary Kay xoxo

Oh, my skin is still crawling and I probably will have nightmares of bugs...I am not afraid of bugs but cockroaches yuck! When we were in the service our first place in Texas was crawling with them too.... that and gas leaks my dad put gum on the holes in the tubing. Crazy life when you're 19. LOL

You are right. I was eighteen and my first experience with big black roaches that fly. It was scary. I had to get away from them but the next adventure had its downside too. LOL

I enjoyed your story although I can tell, there was little enjoyable about it in your case. You've done a very good job of telling it in a humorous way. It's a good thing you were young. At my age, it might have given me a heart attack. I hate the freaking things.

The roach part was pretty horrible and I was still having an adventure. I'd hardly every been away from the small town where i grew up. Thanks so much for the review.

I think we are naturally upbeat, and bullet proof when we're young, we seem to think we will through all problems, and as a rule of thumb, as you do. We got through, fortunately we become a lot more settled when we're older, well done, blessings Roy

For me it was a real adventure. I'd hardly ever been out of he small town where I grew up and even though some of it wasn't pleasant, it was exciting just to be doing someting different. I was eighteen. Thanks for review. I just posed another one.

Wow, what fantastic memories. This is how guts and grit are made. I could not imagine any of our young taking on such a plight. I doubt they would have lived through the night.
Good for you, guys. Great start to a beautiful life together.
I enjoyed this and got the creepy crawlers...about the roaches.EEK!
Thanks for the chuckle.
That one really goes back far.
My best,
Marie

Thank you, Marie. I wrote this one a while back and it was a part of another book that I was writing before my husband died. I covered the in the later book too at the beginning. The story is the same but just lold a little differently. I really appreciate the stars.

I think when I got married there were still many of us who just made the decision, without much thought for the future. I'm grateful that we at least had an apartment! You've written this story with humour, but I doubt there was too much that day. Obviously it worked out in the end. Well written and a fun read, Beth.

I wan't thrilled with the heat, the roaches, nor the fact the little cash we had was disappearing fast but it is easier to handle these things when you are young. You are right, we made the decision without giving too much thought to what it would involve. If we had thought a lot about we might have talked outselves our of doing it and that would have been a mistake. I think that is why some never marry and feel they missed out on life.

Well done an excellent read. Are you still talking to Evan? I was not sure as you referred to him, not "you?" Good write up can imagine the horrors. Louise hates cockroaches.

This was a repost from 2009 when Evan was still alive. I just thought, some who hadn't read from the beginning might like to know how our story started. This was another book, and I'll get around to renewing all chapters of that one eventually. They won't pay until I renew them so, it's best you wait about reading them.. I'm still talking to him in the more recent book.
