Perfectly said! And I agree that so many times we wished we knew that it was the very last time. Because we might have done something a little differently if we knew. Thanks for reviving this post so that we could read the whole poem!

Sobering to contemplate--indeed, time seems to speed up as we age--the verses are well-constructed, well-phrased, and the finale is a kicker. I've ruminated on this theme a lot lately--you summed it up brilliantly.

Thank you Elizabeth. It is sobering to realize how quickly everything in life can change. I think we're all in the boat. We never know.

This poem really connects with the reader and speaks to our childhood in such a voice, it felt like you were narrating my life and I could see it moving along from the first sounds of life to blurred edges of age. Enjoyed reading it in full

Thank for the review and excellent comments. You are the second person who had said it seemed like a narration of their life. I guess we have those feeling in common that time has speeded up as we grown older and change is something that can occur gradually or suddenly. I really appreciate getting another of your six stars.

I am glad I still have a six left for this exceptional poem.
Exceptional for its verse, emotion and truth.
As kids, we all are impatient to grow up. However, there comes a day when we realize time has speeded up and we have more yesterdays than tomorrows.
Brilliant and poignant.
Best wishes,
Mary

I am a firm believer, that if we will try even in our ladder days to do something new, we will find that it adds to the last chapter that we live. I enjoyed this very much, and it is well written. Have a great day and God bless Patricia.

Thanks,Tom. It seems a lot of people find life the same way we do. It only speeds up as we grow older. Things are unpredictible and we are better off enjoying what is before us because it could change in a brief moment.

All your stanzas capture the way I feel about the passing of time. As a child we can't wait to grow up. It seems to take forever. And then you look back and see so many changes, it's both good and bad. You are so right about books.

Thank you so much for this review and comments and another 6 stars. I'm glad you like the poem. It is my daughter's favorite and she says she going to frame it and put it by my casket when I die. I don't know that I wanted to hear that.

Yep I think you're right Beth, we don't know sometimes, when one is young and working one can adjust reasonably well, but when your a "tad" older, it genuinely does sneak up. Beautifully written Beth, mostly great flow, blessings Roy

You deserve a six or more for this but I am out. It is true, I can hear the angel singing, SURPRISE, SUPRISE! I thought you would never make it. Life can be tedious if you let it. My blessings to you, Beth.

Thank you Ben. I got plenty sixes on this one. Whether I deserve them or not, I"m good. You tell those angels you'd like to stick around a little longer to see all you books in print.
