I'm sure most all of us can relate to your fine poem. It makes me think back to when I'd listen to older people saying the "older I get, the faster time goes." At the time, I thought it was such a ridiculous statement. But now, as I've reached a different age, I now realize that every word they said it true. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for the review and the excellent comments. I used to hear that as well from the older people. We have experience it to believe it.

And I am so glad that you did, Beth. Earlier today I wrote you a review on your very sad but true story about the passing of your dearest friend. This poem is so poignantly written. Yes time does seem to overtake us as we get older. Ulla xx

Thank you Ulla. I'm glad you like my poem. It expressed the way change seems to have taken place in my life. Others see it much the same way I do.

I am glad you reactivated this poem. I am sorry I missed it in 2009. I don't think I was a fan of yours back then. It is certainly my loss. This poem shows up how each stage of life changes.

Don't apologize for missing in in 2009. If you hadn't, you couldn't review it now. I'm always glad to know it will be new to most everyone reading it now.

This poem, Chapter's End, presented with ten ABCB-rhymed quatrains, reminds the readers that life doesn't seem to taper through, but drops from now to new. (sounds like a new poem here)

Hi Beth,
This is a well written thesis on time flow and aging. As we get older times seems to pass more quickly and change too. We don't remember getting older and are surprised when we look in the mirror at times. I don't think we should forget the past because it made us what we are today.
Keep writing and stay healthy
Joan

Thank you Joan. My daughter likes this poem and she told me she plans to put it on a stand next to my casket when I die. I don't know that I needed to know that. LOL

No problem, Beth. I think it is good to have your poetry displayed at that time. I have a rhyming epitaph I wrote to be used at my wake or funeral.

what a wonderful poem. The poem is well written. Sending you a virtual six. It explains so many things about life. If we have loved and experience loss, we have felt the pain.

Your sentiments in 'Chapter's End' are well written and well worded. I especially like:

Life needs to sound a warning bell
when chapters start to close.
All too often, it is finished
before a person knows.

I grew up in such a small town when I went visting because I was in college near there I went back to my childhood home and was delighted to see it was the same. But this is the exception to the rule. Life is so slow while waiting for that all important driver's license, etc. Great write. joan marie

I really enjoyed reading this very good thought provoking poem you have written here, Beth. It seems to echo one written recently by another poet on site which made the same point and that also made me stop and ponder the importance of taking care and doing the best we can in all we do and say because it may be the last time we ever have that experience or spend time with that person. I like especially your last two lines. Truth here; succinctly and aptly put.

The last two lines of the next to last stanza would read more smoothly, I believe, if tweaked a bit. I'd suggest changing the "my" before last in the final line of the stanza to "the" and the third line in the stanza to "But wouldn't it be good to know."

In any case, this poem was a pleasure to peruse and made an important point.

Amicus, Thank your for reviewing and for your nice comments. I wrote this several years ago but I did read the other person's poem recently. Thanks for your suggestions. I will probably take your advice.
