Sounds like a rough Christmas! And a TERRIBLE ER doctor. How dare he make judgments about your weight, and "making a big deal" out of your broken ankle. For you, it was a big deal--you were in pain, you had a lot of pressure on you, and then you fell out of the wheelchair!
At least your family was sympathetic and helpful. I only found one error here:

I guess we just don't feel those days will be memorable enough on their on.

I guess we just don't feel those days will be memorable enough on their own.

I just happened to have your story open in my browser, from before I was taken out of commission by Covid--again! Well it's been about 2-1/2 years, so I guess my natural immunity finally gave out (I'm not a fan of the jabs). It looks like now, my husband may have it too. It's not yet full-blown, so he's gone out to the pharmacy to pick up some Paxlovid from my doctor, while wearing a mask.
It seems, as Gilda Radner used to say, that "It's always something!" I think you would agree, especially when it comes to your family holidays. I can't tell you how many plans for the next 10 days we're in the process of canceling.
I guess in times like these, we learn to count our blessings.

Thank you so much for the review and six stars. You have managed to get my week off to good start. However I'm sorry to hear you and your husband have Covid again. I'm praying it won't be severe and it will soon be past. I might have seen this yesterday but we celebrated our Thanksgiving early because my granddaughter are leaving today for a two week trip to Dubai. We like the family together on these occasions. Nothing terrible happened yesterday. LOL

You're very welcome, Beth... and it's a relief to hear that your early Thanksgiving went smoothly! Thank you for your prayers about our Covid situation here. We're just trying to ride it out. Taking Paxlovid seemed like a good idea, until a second doctor told us that sometimes, when you finish the course of pills, the Covid symptoms can make a rebound... so I hope that won't happen with either one of us. God bless your granddaughter on her trip, and keep her safe. 🙏
    Love, Mary Kay xoxo

So many snafus throughout the years--You and the family never catch a break--except, alas, the literal kind--and plenty of them. OUCH! That doc was a dick--you should have caned him.

Why does breaking an ankle happen when it's a holiday? Good thing your relatives helped you with clean up on a busy day; I have had mishaps with my leg and ankle, too. Thank God it wasn't during a holiday though.

Like your story Beth!

Thank you Rosemary. I don't remember getting a lot of help from anyone but my husband. The naxt day they all took off to got snow skiing. Thank's how my son-in-law ended up breaking his ankle.

A fire alarm going off unexpectedly would be enough to incite anyone, especially that time of morning.

Two broken ankles, two Christmases, not much of a present for yourselfl

Hopefully you told Doctor Rude to buzz off.

Added little events make seasons more memorable, but could you not think of better ways to create memories than broken ankles?

Thank you, Brett. I'm sure there are better ways but my kids say I'm addicted to drama so maybe I enjoy laughing about it later and knowing it is a Holiday I'll always remember.

Wow. Truly there is nothing like a little trauma to spice up the holidays. I hope the holidays this year will be much less traumatic and more peaceful. A very well-written post.

What is it that sends problem after problem to families like yours and mine? Did we do something in another life, and now we pay, or are "family angels" gathered above and telling God, "She can handle it!" LOL

Your story sounded so familiar, and I sent you a big warm hug. Save it for the next catastrophe.

Smiles and hugs, Carol

Maybe it is true about the angels thinking we can handle it, because I've had one or two of them show up to help when it was completely out of my hands. Thanks for a great review.

Oh, I think you should have "crowned" that doctor with the crutch. Goodness! I can't believe you didn't cancel the dinner or postpone it. But brava to you for managing the dinner and still managing even after breaking your ankle! Hope it's the strongest ankle ever now. Thanks for sharing!

I was really laughing at "Mother Ship must have zoomed down and had its big-eyed henchmen extract the object while I was sleeping."

Thank you, Helen. I really appreciate the review. I'm glad you found some humor there. This was the actually the third doctor I've experienced that should be removed from his profession. I know they are human too, but it's out life they hold in their hands. I had one try to take advantage of me at nineteen. One in New Orleans examined me while still smoking. That is a story all it's own. The first one did lose his liscense.

Oh my goodness! Glad to hear that the doctor who tried to take advantage of you lost his license!! You had serious illnesses and you don't need those bad doctors to make things worse!

That doctor needed to take Bedside Manner 101. What a horrible
attitude he had towards you, Beth. You sis a great job sharing your
Murphy's Law story. Your words were descriptive, and the flow was
smooth. I can't imagine standing and preparing Christmas dinner
the next day. How ironic about the broken ankle your son-in-law
suffered.
Thanks for sharing, Jan

Thank you Jan. I should have reported the stupid doctor, but I just wanted to get home and get on with Christmas. I laugh about that Christmas now. It seems more than one of my holidays have ended just as bad.

A great mix of pain and humor (the alien metal, excellent way to get attention, felt like a tree attached to my leg). How awful of that doctor to make a crack about your being overweight! Also to make you suffer with a cast instead of a removable boot. I hope you gave him a bad review online!
Thanks for reviving this. An excellent read.

Thank you so much for the review. I pleased that you found this humorous. It is fun later to laugh even though it isn't so funny at the tiem.
