Hi Carol,

I don't know what inspired this story but I do like it. Though very short it says what it must and gets your point across very well. Knights in Satin is an apt title for a war where the women picked up the gauntlet. Well done. Blessings, chey

    Chey,

Didn't have much time so I borrowed a few prompts from a contest and decided to write a story. Glad you enjoyed. Thank you as always. Smiles, Carol

    Buck,

Not my preference of writing, but when I only get thirty minutes or so to write or read, I must choose a shorter path..In time the renovtion will be complete and I can do what I really enjoy...write. Thanks--Smiles, Carol

You do manage to tell powerful story in few words. I do not get who the knights in satin are. What comes to mind for me are the ladies of the night. I sure would like to know the answer.

    Eliz,

Sorry I confused you..The Knights in Satin were the prim and proper ladies of the court, but when the battle required them to forget their manners and step up to the plate...they picked up the gauntlet and fought. Don't think their lace and satin dresses will ever be the same...lol Smiles, Carol

Fine flash fiction write with good word economy and an inspired theme...Amazonian women win the battle. Good story-telling tone and pace. Vivid.

The closing line has a subtle twist

The roar of the meager crowd was strong.

Meager crowd...interesting...just a few brave ones saved the day.
Warmly, rd

Hi Carol,

You do such a fabulous job with these short stories and this one is no exception. Your scene came to life as I could envision the deaths and the tattered threads of those still standing and the tear that the princess shed as she read the proclamation. A job well done. Thank you for sharing.
Becky

    Becky,

Hurrah! I am thrilled that the short story came across showing the determination of those ladies of court and how they stepped up to the plate and fought the battle...Though their dresses will never be the same. lol Smiles, CArol

Carol,
your flash fiction story uses minimum number of words for maximum effect. You are really great at writing flash fiction. Your art work matched the theme. Excellent narrative, vivid imagery , great dialogue and very descriptive writing. The lines that stood out for me:

Princess Zorra gazed at her subjects. Her beleaguered heart filled with pride.

"You didn't hide in fear, but accepted the challenge. Standing beside fallen heroes, you fought. From this day forward, I pronounce you 'Knights in Satin, Freedom Fighters'.

I always look forward to reading you stories. Have a nice weekend.
Melissa.

Hi, Carol. This didn't strike me as one of your better works.
"The King and Queen lay in state." That means they were dead. How long ago did they die? It takes time to prepare for a funeral and they wouldn't leave the battle to prepare the bodies, would they? Why would the princess say the castle was safe if her parents were dead? She didn't mention them in her proclamation and maybe should have.
Last point, a meager crowd couldn't "roar", could they?

I'm not going to mark you down, because this is just the way I see it and I would never lower a rating because I didn't care for it.

I love your writings and read everything you give us. Take care of yourself and don't pay any attention to what I've said, OK? No errors as usual. pat

    Pat,

I guess I should have just said the King and Queen were dead, but lying in state seemed more fitting...Not much room to explain the fact that everyone was being killed and the Ladies of the Court donned in their fashionable satin dresses had picked up the gauntlet and fought the fight.

As for the roar of the meager crowd...like the sot heard around the world...it was more in their minds I guess. Success can be a deafening thrill.

thanks as always. I appreciate your viewpoint regardless if you agree with me or not...And you put it so kindly, how could I not say thank you.

    Smiles to you, my friend...Carol
