This poem was like being drawn into a moment suspended in time. Everything but the boy, the spit, the finger, the bubble - didn't even exist. I felt myself holding my breath with the child. I am definitely going to share this one with my grandson - a good spit bubble never got past him!! great write, my friend. annie

    LOL I more envisioned a big bubble you blow and then try to stick your finger into it without breaking the bubble and the only way to do that is to spit on your finger and make it all wet. Bet he knows!!! Thanks so much you!!!

what a fun and delightful free verse. I love it when the bubble burst. Your art work is lovely. Kind of sensual in a nasty sort of way. I hate spitting because it's nasty. A creative free verse.

Gungalo:

People who have never tried this:

a. don't know what they're missing
b. don't know that it takes real talent to accomplish it
c. pay money to watch someone do the exact same thing with balloons

How fun and true of something no one ever wants to admit to doing. You write so gracefully of something that most people have probably done in their lifetime more than once, but would rather die than say so, and I find it so new and exciting. So Shel Silverstein, but with much more grace.

I have tried spitting many times already...on the road, on the chair, on the table...particularly anywhere. But, I think I have not tried what you are trying to describe...And I don't think I will be missing something I haven't tried...

Nice piece but too abstract to understand...

I don't know what to say, except GROSS! Great visual (or not) of a man spitting--have to agree though, that it takes quite a bit of focus to aim spit. The word 'passion' in here makes me wonder if I'm missing something between the lines (I'm sure it's beautiful). Interesting approach to the subject "Determination"....fun!
