This is an unnerving and powerful poem, and makes a good read. I particularly enjoyed the imagery you used. Thanks for sharing this and have a great day

Hi Linda. It was a terrible time. Everyone remembers where they were on that day. Your series of poems is well done. I think the format you've used is very effective. Good job. Marilyn

An excellent verse that shares the intense anticipation of news. The emphasis on anticipation and concern is well written and clearly conveyed. Well done.

Such a heartbreaking time, such devastation to the American psyche. Your words and unique formatting with the 'time line' of actions and reactions does a wonderful job of bringing all of this and more back home to those who were there and to light for those who were not... ;) Thanx for sharing! ;) Yvette

An excellent free verse poem that captures the mood and horror of a moment in history that many of us remember. I was only a child, living in England at the time but I still recall my mother's reaction upon hearing the news bulletin. Your free verse poem creates the feelings of helplessness and distress that was felt across the world. I can still recall the footage of JFK's funeral and the poignant scene of John Junior approaching his dad's coffin, so little to have to experience that profound loss.

Yes, when this happened everything and everybody did seem to stand still, even here in Australia, I related feelings of that event to that of 9/11 as I watched that in horror (in Australia) this is an excellent free verse and your descriptions demand attention, very well written****kahpot

You did a great job with this free verse to show us the effect of that shocking day in United States' history! I like that you show us how palpable the silence was and ended with a scream and the "bleeding of the world."

This work has reached the exceptional level

I was only four, but I remember patches of it. Mostly I remember that everyone was acting differently than usual. Your poem captures that - the people walk differently ("like wooden soldiers"), no one smiles, everything is in slow motion. All the nuances you pick up on seem to paint a visceral picture of that day. And then there is that great last line - really packs a punch. Great job!

Hello Linda,

This was truly a sad day in our history. I had just joined the United States Air Force and was stationed at Lackland AFB, San Antonio and wasn't too far from where this happened. I had just turned 18 and President Kennedy was the first president I ever voted for.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this very sad day.

Take care and have a great week, my friend...Bill

Well done representation of the mood and unspoken feeling or atmosphere of such a historic and tragic time of History. It was slightly before my time, so I appreciate any and all info on that day. God surely blesses.
