Susan: Yes indeed, this was a scary tale! I like your character development, as it imbued the woman with hopes and feelings the reader could sympathize with. I've heard of this phenomenon; also heard about a bacteria that literally eats flesh. Reality can be more frightening than fiction! Well done. Blessings, Hector

HI Hector! Thank you ! I found this photo and was just horrified! HOW odd. I am scared of this now for sure. Another reviewer said he would stop using lighter fluid for mouthwash! LOL! And yes, there is the flesh eating bacteria. They say it's more common nowadays. It's scary. Please take care okay?? Want you around a while! smiles. Susan

You're welcome, Susan. Doing my best to take--stopped using sticks of dynamite as toothpicks. Warmly, Hector

This is not only a sad story but a story of horror,
I took a chace to read it
and
all
i can onlysay i was warrrned I took a chace.
Yet many disabable people come to an awful death in so many unbelieveable ways.
this was a sad but good story.

Hi Cookie! I thank you...especially much, because you took a chance...This photo just stunned me and I had to write about it. SO sad, so scary. But that's life. Sad and scary. For most. I do appreciate this my friend. I really do. Love, Susan

Oh, wow! You've really branched off of horror involving members of the animal kingdom. Nicely done setting the scene, building the tension and deliverying a dramatic finale. YIKES! This was like horror writing like cinnomon-spiced dark chocolate...unexpected and so sinfully good. Bravo, Susan!

I have often said that I will die of spontaneous combustion because I have had occasions while sleeping that my thigh flesh heated to unreasonable temperatures. It hasn't happened lately.
Good flash fiction story.
There is one point that I wondered about. I know the campfire was from her dream, but since she was in her room, I wondered if in reality the fire was from her fireplace and that she only imagined that it was a campfire. Or did the dream fire actually cause spontaneous combustion? Perhaps the accompanying artwork is misleading me---because that woman obviously died on her stomach trying to fix her fire in the fireplace.

OH J.P.!! I pray this doesn't happen to you! Oh, now I'll be worried sick. I really do appreciate this note, it shows you really read and thought about my words...there are many possibilities here...I like making the reader wonder? Hug!! Susan

One has to die of something, doesn't one? Might as well go out in a blaze of glory! But don't worry--I don't plan to do that! I think a piece works well that doesn't tell the reader everything--makes them think a little.
-
Well, please go to a doctor okay? Please? HOW awful...let me know how you are?? Whew...hug! S.
-
No more worries! It hasn't happened for many years. It may have been mostly because I was going through menopause forever!
-
OH, now I'm going to do it! I'm in the throes...Lord, help us...lol! HUG, S.

I have said it before that you are the master of short short stories. Once again you did it. I have never heard of spontaneous human combustion and I am glad I have not.

Hi Barbara! Wow! I am always so thrilled by your enthusiastic notes. This is real...years ago, I was just astounded when I first heard of it! It's an odd chemical reaction inside the body. Very strange and scary too. Thankfully it is rare. But there was a man on a medical show that had his left arm catch ablaze. It is documented on film...it came, and he survived, and it then stopped. His wife had taped it for the doctors. It was not some trick either...Mercy!! Thanks again Barb. I appreciate your sticking with these odd posts...I hope you are doing well!! Susan

You succeeded in making my skin crawl and you also succeeded in giving me a shiver! One of the creepiest deaths, I think. Ginger

Hi Ginger! Thank you!! :o) I think so too! VERY scary. I had one reviewer say they would have to stop using lighter fluid for mouthwash! I almost busted my tummy open reading it! OUCH! (just had surgery)! Thank you again Ginger...it's a joy to hear your thoughts!! Susan

Realist, I read your other reviews and then I reread your story again. Either there is something wrong with me or I'm missing something!! If it is true that there is an actual phenomenon such as human combustion, I don't feel my skin crawling. In my opinion the story was well written. It's truly a thriller. There are a number of reasons how this could have happened. I think you did a really great job on this story. Definitely splendid imagination. Carole

HI Carole! I get the heebie jeebies worrying over this happening. I'm just that way. Like with spiders! It's so rare , but a real thing! It's a chemical reaction that the doctors and scientists have discovered, but do not know why happens. I'm very happy you took time to review this for me! :o) Susan

Hello again Susan
I guess that is the long and the short of it. I have often wondered how this could possibly happen but according to Wikipedia, Objections to natural explanations typically refer to the degree of burning of the body with respect to its surroundings. Indeed, one of the common markers of a case of SHC is that the body -- or part of it -- suffered an extraordinarily large degree of burning, with surroundings or lower limbs comparatively undamaged.[1] Despite scientific evidence, supernatural explanations of spontaneous human combustion remain popular.
Heck if I understand it but I would hate it to happen to me

It crawled all right. Not the best bedtime reading. I love the images and the dreams.
There has been a case of spontaneous human combustion here in Ireland but not much is said about it. Now I know why
