Whoa. Chilling! This was not at all heading where I expected ~ good for you and your original twists and turns! If I'm looking at the reviews right, I think one more review might boost you into the "Recognized" category. Where this should be!
You're a double threat! Poetry and prose!

Thanks so much for the boost? and your comments. I?m better at poetry than prose but I do dabble writing stories ? once in awhile. This was definitely a fun write. Glad you enjoyed the teust ending.

I try prose now and then...an occasional "Flash" -- but, like you, my preferred genre is poetry.

Hey there Jerri
I love this story and in my case, I voted it as the winner. I loved the closing lines and the black aviator glasses pulled down to the tip of her nose as she blows a kiss for good luck. Superb. Best wishes in the contest

You have written a charming story and told it vividly. You brought me along so skillfully my mind could see the curtains, the seats, Martha in her aviator glasses, etc. The story is done well...I felt sad at the end. Curtis

I enjoyed reading your well written poem. It was long, but not too long. It flows well and your story is deeply emotional. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you angel. You first said thanks for my poem, but it was a story. Maybe that was a typo. I'm happy you enjoyed it in any case. Hopefully it wasn't too long, as it needed time for the story to unfold. Thanks for you best wishes for the contest.

Your description of the beauty and character of your beloved Martha and the theater, inspires a new desire in the arts. The artwork selection for this piece is absolutely stunning. I also enjoyed your author notes. "A love that never ends in the mystic world of theater." Poetic. Good luck in the contest. Thank you so much for sharing. Be encouraged.

Hello gramalot8. I really love this story. It has a wonderful edge to it and is believable. I can easily imagine a woman who loved the theater and building from her grandfather, sitting in the seats wearing black. I thought this was a delightfully realistic read. Good luck. xoxo Kiwi

This is nice, memoir story, but it needs more description of Martha - what she looked like, how she moved and talked, what was she like with people. What made the narrator fall in love with her? Why is her presence so easily sensed in the theater even after her death?
Watch out for repeat phrases, such as, "If you look closely." Good luck!

This is the story that never ends...the haunting of a memory and the tragedy that created it...I found this a very interesting write...the sheer magnitude that surrounds the theater and the many tales of how they are often haunted by spirits that refuse to leave their last curtain call....You keep her spirit alive in your words and the ending is superb...I enjoyed it tremendously...FREE-ONE

This is really a lovely and touching story, well written without any spag that I noticed. You did a fine job of matching a story to that photo!

Phyllis, thank you so much for your comments and review. I had the idea from the prompt and found the picture and got inspiration from there. Glad you enjoyed it.

What a beautiful tribue to the mysteriously lovely Martha ... a story well told ... and one of life's tragedies, yes? Just one typo in "rehersal" should be "rehearsal". I love the haunting image of the art work!
