This is a well told story in aabbcc sestets. It tells how lonely it is without friends because of discrimination. It also tells about how good it is to have friends and how easy it was to make friends if you really get to know a person.

Lovely rhyming pattern. Perfect for little ears, (and big ones too.)
Perhaps a stanza is in order explaining why everyone everywhere thought he was bad. I may have missed something in previous posts.
Children's poetry is filled with imagery. Their quirks, their worries, all came through in this poem.

Millie went to him, and held out her hand,
saying, "Come on now, Whiffy, let's see you stand."

This line gave me a picture of sweet, little Millie.

I'd like to read some more of your poems to my first and second graders.

Goodness, Janet, thank you for looking my Hedgerow Capers gang up. Yes, Whiffy was in another story earlier, he was a naughty weasel in that one, but the gang gave him another chance in this story. You are very welcome to read them. There are about 25 stories on here, including a Christmas one which I've written in both rhyme and prose. That one has sold like hot cakes! I'm really pleased you liked it.
I have just seen that you only joined us in January, welcome to Fanstory, you will love it on here. :)Sandra.

What a beautiful poem with a lovely message of friendship and caring attached to it. I can almost hear a child care teacher reading it to a class. Lovely rhyme and rhythm. Good luck with the submission.

Hello Mrs.. Sandra, I won't put any comments of this poem because I like so, but a friend advice the second book which you published with Amazon named " A short stories why don't you put some lovely illustrations, I think it will much nice because it's for children, and all the children as we know they like to see illustrations with colors before reading, so you can cooperate with your friend the illustration who makes for you the first story book.
By the way can I have your e-mail please, I would like to keep in touch with you if this not bothering you.

Hi Maguy, thank you for reading my Hedgerow story, the Hedgerow series will all be illustrated soon, the first book that has been published already has them. The short stories on Amazon are for the grown-ups, not children, that's why they aren't illustrated. These are short stories all with different themes. Romance, humour, thrillers, and others. The other book that has just come out is all spiritual, words that people feel through loss, heart-break, and how God and Jesus helps us through the pain. All of them are written in Rhyme. This poem tells an interesting story and has good rhythm. It was fun to read. I read it aloud and it flowed smoothly.
The part where Whiffy says I thought it could be mine was a little clumsy when I read it out loud it did not have the same rhythm as the rest of the story. But otherwise it was excellent.

I see absolutely nothing wrong with this poem story. It is the most charming and interesting children's poem I have read in a long time. The story ling is quite entertaining, the rhythm of the lines is exceptional. It is a very well compiled poem, and I say "Here you go!", to all the reviewers against long poems, "Too long for you to read? You lose out if you skip this one!" And that is my honest opinion.

Strong meter makes the poem easy to read, and it sounds as if your characters are well established, with personalities the reader would by now be familiar with. I certainly didn't notice any spag.
I did find the poem a little "dense" in its length, but perhaps when it reaches book stage it would be split up with illustrations? I am sure it would lend itself very well to pictures capturing all the characters' expressions. There's some wonderful material there for an artist to work with.
Fun to read, and I wish you the best in the contest.
Yours
Sally

Thank you so much, Sally for your kind review. The first of the Hedgerow books comes out at the end of October, I commissioned CorrinasCreations on FanArt to illustrate it, as I wanted to have some input in them and as the illustrator the publishers use for children's books lives in Scotland, they were quite happy for me to use Corrina, and they were so impressed they have now put her on their books. This story, 'Is That Our Cart' is in the second book, due to come out next year. And now I am working on a third book. This group of friends are through the whole series. I am pleased you liked them, and thank you for your best wishes although just to be in the contest gave me a buzz. LOL, :) Thank you again! xsx Sandra.

This is one of the very best children's poem / stories that I have read or heard ever. It is very lyrical, the rhymes are immaculate the verses are evenly matched, the theme is maintained all the way through. And lessons are taught in such a subtle way that most children will not even realize that they have just learned some valuable lessons. 1: Never go near a body of water when you are alone. 2: Even when you think that nobody likes you, somebody does. 3: Just because you think you have found something that can be yours, when the rightful owner claims it don't argue or fight about it. 4: Most people are nicer than you think they are.

Thank you so very much for your lovely review, Nomi,I am so pleased you liked this story, I try to put a little lesson in all these stories, but at the same time try not to make them feel they are being treated like children, they all think they are grown up!! My grandson is now, 4 and three quarters!! That makes him a big boy now!!LOL Thank you again for your lovely review and for awarding it a super 6!!!! Sandra. xsx
