Wow! You two are a pretty cool couple! The Rescuer and the Bird-Woman. She saw something in you and vice versa ... hm, could that be love, devotion and trust? I so enjoyed this read, Mikey. Only one sentence-tangle:
..young gal enamored of the front man for ..
I think it should read enamored with the front man for ..
Good story, thanks for sharing it.

Well, certain kinds of blind faith are not a fault. Your wife is lucky to have you (and you are lucky to have her). When I met my wife, she had acute myeloid leukemia and her prognosis did not look good as she had been on chemo for over a year with no end in sight. My friends, even my folks cautioned me, but the heart wants what it wants...And she went into full remission shortly after we married. Sometimes, blind faith is a good thing.

I think in the long run it is how a life is lived without regrets. What a great story. Every time I've listened to others I've regretted it. When I follow what I truly feel, it always seems to work out. mikey

This is a wonderful story. Your writing is always at its best when you write about your personal experiences. This is no exception. It takes a very special person to not give up especially after so much time has passed. Your story is laced with humor, love, and old-fashioned determination. You are a special soul, Mikey.

That is the thing about true love. You support and encourage each others' dreams and endeavors. You will believe and support each other when nobody else will. This is very well written. Good luck.

This is a superb essay and a terrific entry for this contest. I enjoyed it immensely and wish you all the best too.

This is a very open and heartfelt story and I truly admire you for perseverance. In my personal situation, I had to leave after twenty years before me and my children fell into the hole he was digging and he managed to drink himself to death 6 wives later. But for you, it worked differently and I think that is wonderful and that the both of you have no bitterness speaks much of good character.

I left my first wife. This one I had a feeling about. You really can't save some people. But, some are worth it. Bitterness is a waste of time unless it's Apple Pucker in Vodka. Hahaha. mikey

Bitterness is the waste of brain space to be sure. Finding the button that turns it off is another exercise entirely.

Wonderful story of your persistence my dear friend. God bless you for sticking by the stuff. I asked for your help a while ago about transferring stuff to Word for counting purposes. HELP! This was an excellent tale of truth.
having writers' block atm but have seen some things might get me going. may shelve the attempt at fiction for now and get on with my Mum's 'Megoirs'

This suddenly turned into to this. I didn't start out writing about it. Just highlight whatever you want to count and right click and select copy. Then go to word and open up a new document and press right click again and select paste. It should show up on the blank sheet. In "review" there is a spelling and grammer check up towards the upper left and to the right of that there is a word count button. It will count all of the words in the document or if you highlight a section, it will count that. I was thinking those wacky neighbors of yours would make good characters for a fiction story! Just a thought. Way behind, will try and pop by and take a look at your latest improvements. mikey

"In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." We can all 'turn a blind eye' to what we don't want to see, and your extraordinary story has made me see that perhaps that is what blind faith is about. Like Nelson on the deck of his ship, when "The Admiral's signal bade him flee
He clapped his glass to his sightless eye
And 'Damned if I see it, he said!'"
Oscar Wilde said "We are all standing in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars" ... and sometimes if you shut one eye, you can see the stars more clearly. So hold on to your blind faith, this battered old world needs it. Hugs, Hadria

Wonderful references! So pleased you agree. I never feel foolish for having faith. It is so much better than the alternative! I am terribly behind in answering these. I try to review first and I'm behind in that too. So, I'm going backwards on these. I do read and appreciate every word though. Thank you so much! mikey

Sometimes in life we have given so much to our spouse that we cannot give up on them. It is a blessing one gives up their habits and they must want to do it for themselves as well as others. It is an accomplishment in ones life they can be proud of for finding their way back. The love of one person can make a difference.
