How true, yet what great blessings to see withering and fading our most treasured senses. And, what new challenges! We have shared the ever-enhancing beauty of memory. Yet, I sometimes feel a tear can be a reinforcement of such blessings too, while one hopes to develop new strengths of adaption, life's meaning and joy. And, yes, what is fear but caution in stepping forth into the extended chapters of physical life, most us hoped to be blest by; and otherwise, are encouraged to make our choices known the earlier the better.
I love this poem and its presentation. And, I share the beauty of a hike as a powerful form of meditation and oft insight, or stirring of thoughts in new directions. I enjoyed the rhyme and the picture. And wonder at all those birds circling your American Flag.
The white border around your picture and white print is green sit strikingly for me, and look very clever from where I sit at present. Congratulations and thanks, Maureen*&*

I do thank you for your review and kind comments as I know it takes time to write these up. I actually wrote this one while I was on a walk with my dog and we flushed a flock of birds. I wondered at the time what it would be like to not be able to see or hear this wonderful experience.
Yes! I cared for some blind and deaf children once when there were few choices and supports for individuals or families, and medical knowledge was limited. Very young myself, I loved them as little ones and part of my group all blind and secondarily disabled. It started me wondering, and I can only return there today; and to the story of Helen Keller, and her `teacher,' who I believe showed the way many could achieve happy independent lives and make wonderful contributions for all. And, that sets me wondering again, for our whole lifetime of memories, what would they be like, especially if both completely deaf and blind as many Rubella children were because Mum caught German Measles, a mild infection generally but disastrous in pregnancy.
I've just enjoyed a weekend walking and without technology, so it?s so lovely to return and share some deeper thoughts. Blessings Annie, writing time is precious time, it brings so much into a new present! Enjoy your days, Maureen*&*

This is beautifully written and expressed. Image is perfect for your words. I have the same fears and hopes that you share with the reader here. Each day is a precious gift to be enjoyed to the best of our ability. Nicely done. Marilyn/BeasPeas

I love poems that rhyme, and I love this one for that reason. It does capture the fears of aging. I also appreciate that you end with the caveat that memory can save what failing eyesight and hearing can't. (unless you have Alzheimers....)

Sometimes it is hard to capture emotions in a short poem, but you have done it. Your words describe the fears many have of growing old and losing eye sight, hearing, becoming sad and crying, but it also offers hope by reminding us that everything we have experienced, our hopes, our dreams, remain in our memory. Nicely done.

That is so true, we may be wrinkle up from the outside and have all kinds of aches and pains, the eyes and ears can't see and hear so well anymore. But what you feel inside is how old you really are.

This poignant poem on the effects of aging, shows the emotions connected to the possible waning or failing of the bodies senses. But the beauty of nature is stored in the memory's eye. Good luck in the contest.

I almost didn't click on your poem because it was about aging - which I'm in the midst of big time. But, I'm glad I did. You handled the topic beautifully; the last three lines really grabbed me. An excellent entry.

A beautiful poem, expresses what we all fear as we grow older, the loss of our senses. I love the last two lines, which are uplifting.
Well done, thank you for sharing.
